Müller Drogerie opens a drugstore in Hauptbahnhof

...with suitably long opening times

Müller Drogerie, the drugstore chain, has a new branch inside Munich Hauptbahnhof, located in the Zwischengeschoss (in-between floors level) next to the FC Bayern fan store as you come up from the U-Bahn (lines U1/2/7/8 and certain exits for the U4 & U5) heading towards the main concourse.
So why should this be interesting?
Well, the opening times for a start (pictured).
Monday - Saturday 7am - 10pm
Sundays & public holidays 8am - 8pm
While this store does not store high-end cosmetics and perfumery as stocked in some of their other branches, it does stock familiar brands of household products, cosmetics, hair care, pet food, vitamins, condoms, sanitary protection, teas, chocolates, drinks... usual Müller stuff. And at their usual Müller prices.
Handy to know for when you're off on a night out and have forgotten essential supplies (bought an emergency lipstick there last night myself) or when you run out of washing powder on a Sunday. Not that I do, obviously.

Ohh!! Good one, Katrina!
Katrina
Also stocks nappies and other baby supplies.
kitkat64
Emergency lipstick! I love it!
Topsy
Woohooooo!!

it doesn't stock CD's and DVD's by any chance, does it?
that would be *truly* fab
SleeplessInMunich
Why? How often do you need to buy a DVD on a Sunday?
Topsy
it doesn't happen very often that i *need* to buy a DVD on any day of the week, never mind Sunday.
it would just be nice to have the option, though, innit?
SleeplessInMunich
Er...okay. blink.gif
Topsy
i didn't have you down as a keep-sunday-sacred type of person, SiM
just shows you how wrong you can be... rolleyes.gif
Bubble Gum
I'm with Topsy, if I can browse for CDs and DVDs there I will be much more inclined to go there...
SleeplessInMunich
I'm not, but I just can't see why having a place to buy CD's or DVD's on a sunday would be truly fab? Its not like they will probably stock a huge collection if they do and I can't see myself going, "Hmmm, lets go down to Hauptbahnhof just to browse the DVD collection in Müller.
Topsy
maybe not, but that's probably because you're usually too busy on a sunday playing with your collection of toy dinosaurs tongue.gif
UrbanAngel
I've thought it several times when hearing a tune I like at a club over the weekend, and wanting to buy the CD ASAP so as to get it out of my head biggrin.gif Besides, their stock isn't usually too bad - big heavy metal section anyway biggrin.gif

That is exactly what I would do.

They are not going to stock CDS ad as Katrina mentioned they are not going to stock their high end parfumerie stuff. Having branches in stations is a way to get around the general ban on Sunday trading. Officially they are only selling stuff you need to travel to bona fide travellers innit.

The supermarket chain Norma already have a branch in Regensburg Hbf for this reason.

I've seen the store but I've always rushed past by now cos of the bad smell coming from the adjacent store.

Rainy sundays are great for slumming it at home watching DVDs. Not sure I'd travel all the way to the HBh just to rent them but I like the idea of having it available.
UrbanAngel
Darn. Still, good news I guess.

Innit! I remember going to see Walk the Line at the cinema on a Sunday matinee, and chomping at the bit waiting for the shops to open on a Monday morning so I could pick up a Johnny Cash CD.
If the shops had been open, i'd have hoofed it immediately into town and picked one up there and then.
SleeplessInMunich
If feel like a DVD or CD then a small Müller at the train station isn't probably going to be stocking the selection that they have down in Tal for instance.
Topsy
rolleyes.gif
why don't you go off and start a thread on negativity in MRC, SiM
something along the lines of "let's think of something good and then pick fault with it" tongue.gif
SleeplessInMunich
No, maybe you should start a poll on it. tongue.gif
Showem
I wondered myself if they will have CDs and DVDs, but I doubt it.

Reason A - The shop is too small to have any sort of decent collection.

Reason B - Knowing the type of people who hang out at Hbf (as compared to shop on Sundays there), it would be rife with shoplifters.
Katrina
No they don't have DVDs or CDs.
You can however get photos developped.
And for some bizarre reason buy a vibrator or Kegel training balls.
19,99€ each, top rack, above the tampons.
Funny what you remember isn't it?

This is intriguing. What do they sell? huh.gif
Stig
As MT said, they only sell things that they can argue bone fide travellers would need. Probably make the journey fly by.

This is intriguing. What do they sell?

Piles of steaming shit to farmer's kids from Oberfickenhausen who came into town for the day on their dad's tractor.

don't young people these days still carry walkmans and such that you could put a CD into?
or have they now been totally superceded (sp?) by them Ipod thingies with the white earplugs?
i just can't keep up...
MonksTown
They might end up having to argue their position in court innit.
A jumbo box of washing powder would be legally wobbly.
Topsy
hmmmm - but as Katrina pointed out, they also sell vibrators
would that be classed as "legally wobbly" as well, then, do you reckon?

Now THAT would be a useful and good idea. I often did my grocery shopping at Norma on a Sunday when I lived in Regensburg. The prices are not increased, and the lip service of saying its for travel didnt bother me (even when I purchased 3 backpacks full of groceries)

Considering the prices of the petrol stations for basic groceries, I would be glad if there were an open supermarket at the HBF. (Not a mini-market, but a Norma/netto/aldi/edeka)

If you have a ticket for the whole net and time to kill Zeppelin, and since it's a Sunday, you probably do have time, you could head out to the airport and the lovely Edeka market out there.
Katrina
Müller at Hauptbahnhof will also be open over the Holiday season.
Changed opening times:

Christmas Eve they will close at 4pm, Christmas Day and Boxing Day open 8am-8pm (I think - they are certainly open, I'm not 100% on the hours), New Year's Eve close at 4pm, New Year's Day 8am-8pm.
Handy if you run out of tin foil, washing up liquid, toilet paper, nappies, wholemeal flour, juice...

Have also noticed that they also sell single monthly contact lenses for about €4 each - no complicated prescriptions but maybe worth a (blurred) look should you lose one. Limited range of solutions also available, they are on the back wall amongst the vitamins/health care products.

Sweet! his is only good for me for about two months a year when I'm home, but much <3 to Munich,
I wish HD was even remotely as "good" about opening hours. Most stores do not even open until 2000 on Saturdays. sad.gif
