The Social Club Mülheim an der Ruhr - Germany

My wife and I had a brilliant night last night in the Hopfensack pub-restaurant where the English Social Club Mühlheim meet on a fairly regular basis.

As well as the usual "drinkie-poohs" you can also have a bar snack at your table, or a restaurant meal if you so wish. We found the people there to be very sociable, and all speak English to a good level.

Membership (which is not compulsary) in the main ranges from 40 upwards, if this is of any importance to you.

The alternative venue is The Irish Pub - Mülheim.

If you are new to the area, please come and join us. You are assured of a very warm welcome. I am sure you will not regret it. Looking forward to meeting you.

Mülheim is located between Duisburg and Essen. Our next Monthly Information Meeting is at "Feldmann-Villa", Augustastr. 108-114, Mülheim-Styrum (just off the A40 motorway - junction Mülheim/Oberhausen-Styrum) on Friday, September 9, starting at 8pm. You are very welcome to join us there.

Well there doesnt seem to be a lot doing in Duzisburg. I am one of those weekly commuters that goes back to the UK every weekend and I dont want to spend my whole week gauping at DVD's I have recorded at home.

One does need a social life doesnt one!

Well, Frank did turn up for the Pub Evening. Where was everybody else? ;-)

In the end, there were eighteen of us - American, British, Dutch, German and New Zealand (... only the Africans and Asians were missing).

Sorry, I saw your posting too late to invite you personally to our meeting. There are a number of people who just want to speak English. However, we're an international English-speaking Club. Our members and friends are also interested in different cultures and how people live in other countries. One of the aims of our club is to enable people of different cultural backgrounds who also speak a variety of languages to converse in English and get to know each other and get more familiar with each other's mentality. The Social Club Muelheim a.d. Ruhr is an international English-speaking Club which was founded in 1991. The next Monthly Information Meeting will be held at "Feldmann-Villa", Augustastr. 108-114, Mülheim an der Ruhr-Styrum, on Friday, July 11, from 8pm-10pm. This will be followed by a pub evening at "Hopfen-Sack" pub (also known as the home of "Mülheimer Jazzclub", Kalkstr. 23 (corner of Kalkstr./Hingbergstr.) on Friday, July 18 starting at 8pm. Please let us know if you wish to join us at the pub (on one occasion we almost took over the pub and, alas, it was impossible to talk to all the people turning up.). Thank you!
