my resume is finally quasi-done. just need to tweak it!!!
also, the crabbiness of my boss is being taken out, at least momentarily, on the putzfrau and not on me (i got my fair dose yesterday and for the past 14 months and prob will still for the next 2 weeks, but at least at the moment it's not on me!!!)
Because the mother-in-law is leaving to go home today!!!

I'm going home for my first English Christmas in four years (!) and just found out an old schoolfriend is over from Dubai at exactly the same time... it's eight years since we've seen each other! Aren't reunions great?!
we are getting a new DH from Switzerland in the new year, and I had to order all the new instraments and trays for her, and myself and the other senior DH decided, we want new stuff, and she gets our hand me downs. (the other DH is married to one of the docs, so I won't get in trouble for doing this). Sometimes life is good.

I am happy because I went to the customs office in Garching to pick up some bibles, but that's not really why I'm happy. The real reason is that on the way back just before coming off the Autobahn in Schwabing I saw the silhouette of the Frauenkirche in front of the majestic backdrop of the Alps and it made me realize: Damn, I do live in a beautiful, historical, cultured place!
oh i love when i get spontaneous good views like that! happened yesterday and made me realize i'll definately miss this place in 2 weeks.
i'm happy b/c although my work schedule isn't logical i still don't really have to work that much today-sunday! (but next week will be super long and stressful-oh well. with only 2 weeks I have stopped caring)

about to sit down to a nice brunch of warm croissants with some homemade jam (gift from a patient) then a nice short day at the office, with patients who worship me. Sometimes, it is wonderful in my world.

I am happy because the guy I picked up the bibles for says my boss appreciates my tenacity. Actually, he gives me some task or other that involves being stubborn with some moran on the phone and says, "Be your usual aggressive self". Not a compliment but a trait of character necessary in my profession.

I am happy because we replaced the not-working scale with one that shows pounds and kg, and I've lost more than ten pounds in the 5.5 weeks I've been here! I now weigh (slightly) less than I did at my wedding in May!
Exultatio!
(note... yes, I gained weight between the wedding and moving here)

I am happy because I just had one of the funniest conversations I've had for a while, and I'm sitting here chuckling to myself and it's put me in a really good mood, and looking forward to meeting up with all my mates again over Christmas.
So, I call to book a table for lunch on 23rd dec in a pub, 8 x proper people, 1x 1yr old kid, 1x 3month old:
Me: "Do you have high chairs?"
Publican: "you need a high chair for your child?"
"It's not my child!"
"oh."
"but I'll have one anyway"
"for you?"
"no, the kid"
"a high chair, right"
"yeah, a high chair for the kid"
"so you want a high chair for your kid"
"yes. And do you have baby changing facilities?"
"I don't know"
"you don't know?"
"I'll check...no, but you can use the disabled toilet"
"no baby changing, but you have high chairs?"
"yeah, you still want a high chair?"
"yes please, and a corner table because one of my friends is breast feeding"
"I think a high chair might be too big for a tiny baby"
"there's two babies"
"so you want two high chairs"
"no, one high chair, and corner table so my friend can breast feed relatively surreptitiously"
"so she can do what?"
"breast feed without people staring at her boobs"
"right - anything else?"
"non-smoking if possible"
"the whole pub's non smoking"
"excellent"
"yes it is nice"
"righty-ho, thanks"
"see you on the 16th"
"no, 23rd"
"right, 23rd, sorry, bye"
Also happy because I don't have kids and so don't have to go through this rigmarole regularly!

Overheard in passing...
I was travelling up the escalators at Marienplatz this morning and there was a couple travelling down, nicely dressed, being very affectionate with each other and from all the giggling seemed a bit drunk (but it was 9.30am!). Anyway, as they passed me the girl said very clearly in English
"So, what's your girlfriend's name?"
Ah Christmas!

i'm happy because the kid who can be a bit of a brat is being great today!
oh, and my mom seems cool with the idea of me going back to school in January, and was fine with the idea of me coming back here this summer (and even said she thought i might only be going home for christmas and then coming back here instead of going home and staying!)

It's a good thing if there is a garden (or at least a patch of grass) to go with it. Not so good if your windows are close to the entrance to the building because you'd see and hear everyone going in and out, and possibly have other people's bikes parked right outside.
