It's Friday, I have homemade sausage rolls at my flat waiting for someone's birthday bash in a biergarten, the sun is shining, my desk is clear and clean, the ABs play the Aussies tomorrow (either way the Kiwi wins), I have 2 weeks of leave that I forgot to take, but still can and the future is looking hugely wonderful and very smiley.
Not a bad haul indeed.

Excellent - you'll enjoy that! Someone dissed my sausage rolls and so I was railroaded into proving them wrong.
Saying
"Do not take the name of my sausage rolls in vain!" was kinda bizarre tho

instead of being at home getting ready for stuff tomorrow (what i should've been doing ) I went out with a friend I haven't seen for a few months. I thought he was just back for a visit, but turns out he's moved back! he had beer and wings and hung out with some of his fraternity buddies. Despite a few awkward moments it was a nice time and i haven't been out like that in ages! Don't remember the last time I just hung out like that and could just be goofy and whatnot.

I am happy because
1- I have AAA (American Automobile Association)
2- i have unlimited cellphone minutes
3- my dog was great
1 and 2 were handy together when on the way back from Illinois my car decided to have a flat tire and i decided to be lazy and not want to change it myself while cars rushed past on I-94. AAA sent some guy to help and while I waited I aimless called people to pass the time.
Brennan was great since today was our first agility trial (competition). In all four events he Qed (qualified), took first in all four events for his height at our level. Unfortunately one run we faulted, but we still Qed, took first, and had 3 clean runs!

Colleague (
questioning proofed work for the 3rd time): Are you sure about being able to say "can boast of"? Leo says that means we are showing off, isn't that too much?
Me:Well, we normally don't use Leo for translation, but if you check around the net in context you'll see that it works in this context for other people as well. (
Then I add as an explanation) Maybe it's like the "sch" word - used casually in German but still really not socially acceptable in English.
Colleague :-) ach ja stimmt
das bleibt mir bis heute ein Rätsel warum f**k so schlimm ist im Englischen:) für mich klingt das völllig normal
Translation: :-) oh, that's right
to this day I still can't figure out why f**k is so bad in English:) It sounds like something totally normal to me.

Jul 29 2008, 8:04 pm
Why is that? Because it's used so often in films? I used to have a special lesson in my business English courses about what not to say, and f**k was at the top of the list. Most of my students were surprised that they shouldn't even say that word at a casual after-work business dinner.
Anyway, I'm happy today because mini-Cinzia is three years old! Proof that small children are hardier than houseplants, at least in my house.

I'm seriously stoked about that one. La la la la la la. No more scary people in the late-night laundromat. Seriously hot repairman too (not just due to weather).

Because today is the first day of 3 weeks holiday for me, my daughter came home from school with a report improved in every subject compared to last year, plus the results of a special English exam she did earlier in the year run by Cambridge University, in which she got top marks in every category, the best result from the whole school. Made her old Dad proud she has!
