Because after 2 years of intense searching, I finally found (and was offered) an excellent job (in my chosen profession) in the US (Texas, actually). I'll be leaving Germany for the first time in nearly 20 years in about a month.
sarabyrd
Wow, congratulations to your dedication and success!
Odenwalder
Thanks! I've been stuck in a "TERM" (not temporary, but not permanent either) low paying job trying to hold out for what I really wanted. Now with my community closing, I was really worried it would close before I found something (after I already turned down a job in PA last month due to their unwillingness to pay the moving costs). I was just days away from working out a contract agreement with my former contract employer in Iraq as a safety net.
Mariposa
Haha, well I would pick Texas over Iraq any day, too. Congrats on getting the job. Where exactly will you be moving in TX? No exactly a small state.
sarabyrd
Nope, go for Iraq. Less weapons there.
Odenwalder
El Paso. /shudder

Never been there, but have heard it is not the most exciting of places. You better start brushing up on your Spanish. tongue.gif
Ruthie
There's a romantic oldie about El Paso and a Mexican girl called Felina.
Panama
Because I came late to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof thanks to traffic and when I had already lost all hope to get my train back home I found out it was 15 minutes late! Deutsche Bahn punctuality, priceless!
Carm
my shoulder and neck stopped hurting, have a clean apartment, enjoying Grey's Anatomy (in German) and a good bottle of Chianti, and in less than 24 hours my brother is here to visit for the weekend.
I have realized who my true friends are, and feel good about that, life in my world is good at the moment. biggrin.gif

and next week, I head to my fav place in the world! Finland.
Lavender Rain
Because tomorrow is Thursday my favorite day of the week because it's the closest to Friday and because my husband will finally be home in less than one week to resume my German lessons blink.gif .

get ready for the Germans... Fort bliss has a large amount of Germans stationed there so when you start to miss german bread head to Peters bakery.. El paso is not so bad.. It is Just Differant is all
Odenwalder
I've been there twice (for a week each time) for in/out processing on my way to Iraq as a contactor. I don't foresee it being a bad experience. I won't brush up on my Spanish. I learned German to live in Germany so "they" can learn English to live in the US. If I cross the boarder into Juarez, I'll try and speak Spanish.

Bliss, being the "Home of Air Defense Artillary" does have lots of Germans there for training (and some working permanently in various training units). I also have LOTS of friends there. A few of them are checking out apartment complexes that I found on the net to see if they are as good as the pictures on their sites. This should be a smooth transition.

But you can count on me finding any place to buy anything German. I'll miss my bread, for sure. But there are so many cooking/food items that I will miss as well. But damn, it'll be good to be back in the states again (even if only for a year of two before I plan on being back here).
sarabyrd
I am happy because my brother, sister-in-law and their baby will visit us on Sunday. She is almost nine months old now and creeps/slides around on the floor gnashing her seven teeth and pulling on cables. The baby, that is.
mere
i'm not happy at all, but if i weren't in my current situation/circumstance i'd be happy because soon i'll be on the same continent and country as my boyfriend!
Keydeck
I think you're looking for the "What might make you happy today?" thread or perhaps the "Why are you not entirely content with your lot today?" thread.
Ruthie
I get to leave work in 5 minutes!

I have flu and was feeling crappy. Then I ran out of tissues and felt worse. So I went to the supermarket and something caught my eye. It couldn't be... but I bought it and tried it and yes it is: Landliebe Vanille-Karamell Eis *is* Hokey-Pokey.
*gleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*

What the fuck!? The Hermans stole our delicacy. First the world wars, now the ice cream stealing.
Lavender Rain
I'm happy because my husband gets to come back to Europe tomorrow five days earlier than was scheduled. I'm also happy because I made reservations to stay in a very nice ferienwohnung so we can go hiking on the PanoramicWeg in Altmuehltal starting at the old city of Eichstaett in a few weeks.

I'm at home now and although I'm wearing some naff head gear, I am slowly getting there! Thanks! (Just trying not to think about the 2nd op)

And I'm happy because I realise what good friends I have. Thanks for all the support.

a pschyco ex of mine showed his true colours, that only made him look even more childish and idiotic. At least people are beginning to believe me what an idiot he really is!

We've been having trouble just standing up here...
Mariposa
Yeah I have heard from my best friend that there are storms in Germany. So strange that here it is so nice at the same time.
cyn
coz its my bday and i'll be going out tonight biggrin.gif
Carm
even though its monday, and my brother flies back to Canada today, I really enjoyed the weekend with him, and just hanging out with him, and he got to meet some of the wonderful people in my life here in Munich. And the winds have die down some, so I will not worry about his flight.
Thanks to a few of my girlfriends that took him out with them saturday night, he has no idea where he was, and did make it home around 3 am... after he got lost on the ubahn and took a taxi.
All and All, life looks really good now. (that can change once the work day really starts. lol!).
Pas
I've just spotted I can drive to work in daylight and drive home in daylight for the first time this year. Summer is on the way...
bluedave
Cos i've just launched a huge order on foodfromhome and Cadbury's Creme Eggs, Crumpets, bacon and more will be mine ! tongue.gif
mere
Pas you're lucky. For the past week or so I've been able to drive to/from work in daylight, but with the clocks changing soon it'll be back to darkness for me on my way to work.
Mariposa
Clocks will be changing in Europe too, but only in four weeks. (minus two days). Not next weekend (as in the US I think).
bluedave
Cos i've just heard from DPD that my Red Cross Parcel is in Munich and inbound as we speak. tongue.gif

Oh yeah and i've been offered a job.
leky
Congrats on both, don't make yourself sick by eating all your goodies in one go though!
bluedave
I'll try and ration the Creme Eggs . . . unsure.gif
Ruthie
You can give me some, bluedave, just for safe-keeping, like.
DDBug
I've got the nicest cleaner here - and she actually is still smiling and nice even though she's doing the bathroom shared by 2 boys and 2 cats first! laugh.gif And I don't have to do it!!!
Ruthie
It snowed! Real snow (and not some brown mush)!
