It's the end of half term - Reece has gone to his dads for the weekend, Alex is at work and the house is nice and peaceful and I'm going to relax and have
a bottle of wine a nice healthy not fattening drink

First victory against the ridiculous US Bureaucracy... After many letters, complaints, appointments and god-knows-what, they finally issue me with my work permit... Now to find the "Vent" thread as I now have to start bloody working again. Bloody hell

There's bureaucracy in
America?

(Congrats about the work permit though, btw)
Crawlie
Nov 3 2006, 9:49 pm
Well... Normally with Bureaucracy you know what is going to happen, how many forms you ahve to fill out, what the wait is and all that stuff. It is annoying but you are informed. In the US, you have NO CLUE! Every phone call to Homeland Security brings a new surprise. I have been quoted everything from 10 days to 2 years with regards to my work permit. I had my visa interview scheduled and cancelled within 24 hours but now I do not care. I can work and they can take 10 years for my visa as far as I am concerned...

I'm happy because it's six months to the day since I gave up smoking. I've had one puff which I didn't enjoy and apart from that I've only been seriously tempted once.

I'm happy because I'm on vacation and have been blissfully oblivious to all the fighting and biting that happened on TT over the last few days and am now too lazy to read the threads that were closed.
Also, when I arrived at the airport I was flying into, it was like they'd cleared the place out just so I wouldn't have to be bothered dealing with other people. I got off the plane, stopped in for a quick potty break and then walked to the baggage claim and got my bag without any hassle. The place was nearly empty. I was so delighted. Then I realized the entire place was empty because some sort of fire alarm or something had gone off (it worries me that I was stood there completely oblivious to a blaring emergency signal

) and everyone else had evacuated the building.

I just went through a pile of about 100 very official looking envelopes fearing the worst
It turned out only one of them was shit i didn't already know about and most were companies offering me a loan.
The day feels much lighter and brighter

That sounds very familiar, I know someone who didn't open his mail for 7 months and received a few nasty surprises upon finally opening it.
Why don't people open their mail?
QUOTE (Eleanor Rigby @ Nov 6 2006, 1:46 pm)

Why don't people open their mail?
I open it if I know its a bill, but my pay stubs and bank statements, never open, til I have a huge pile of crap in my mail box, and decide to sit down and place them into my binders.

I'm happy because kiddo doesn't have a concussion after having had to pick him up early from school after getting a "foot to the head". It wasn't a fight or anything - apparently an accident ? Whatever. And he only had one mistake in his German homework.
And I pay someone to open my mail - so it's almost all caught up!

I am happy because it is Friday, the SAS EG4 installation (some computer crap) finally works and the data extract that I need for the wanky French incompetent bastard down the corridor who can only write a specification in the style of a half-dead & drunk chimpanzee on speed is complete.
Bliss.
But Jenny L's shopping sounds great.
