Ruthie- i'll still respond to your pm soon, but if you can find the book to order online get Parenting your Dog by Trish King (i have a massive list/library i could recommend after this). It's entertaining and insightful and compares some aspects of raising a dog to a kid.

sorry ER, i don't know of one that's similar and about cats... at least cats catch on to litterboxes faster than pups to do housebreaking (at least in general). (but if housebreaking is done correctly it should only take 1-2 weeks to learn the concept then another few months to reinforce/proof it).

I have put in the effort to have real Tex-Mex food today. The house smells wonderfully full of Tex-Mex flavors.

I was mean to my dog at lunch today when he bit me too hard, and then this afternoon I was worried he´d be scared of me or hate me, but when I walked in the door his whole body wagged and he wetly licked me nearly to death. I love him.

I'm happy today, because it is 2:31am, eastern Canada time--late at night here; and I am almost finished packing my house up. I leave for Berlin in 36 hours. I'm happy for instantaneous communication, weekly garbage disposal, my girlfriend enjoying a back rub while she is feeling sick, the internet for housing old cartoons I have been hunting lately, old friends for being reachable, and being available for reminiscing, cheap pizza joints for delivering this late, Balanescu quartet for composing such beautiful music, my laptop for playing it. cheap Indian smokes for tasting like Marlboro's, (that only means something to you if you are Canadian); I love the cedars outside, the faint smell of cat pee, underneath, the lilac that is slowly blooming--and I won't get to see the full bloom, all my friends who said, "why are you going there?", and i told them, because i can.

I'm happy today because i will be exploring in 2 days.

I finally got my application folder back from a job I applied for in April last year. They said they would send it back to me within a few days. German efficiency at its best!

Because I made up with someone I love dearly with whom I had had a spat.

My friend is coming over with her new baby boy who I will see for the first time!!

Not yet, but I am taking him to her place so she can see him -- in the garden -- on Sunday, because she NOW decided to tell me that she is indeed afraid of dogs. If someone's afraid of dogs I totally understand -- but they have to tell me! Let's just hope she doesn't cancel on me again, cos then she will lose all privileges with the Arctic Fox.

Because I've just been on the phone to my brother.
He's in London Heathrow with his Kiwi bride getting a plane to Los Angeles, where they will travel onwards to Las Vegas.

They sound so happy and I am so happy for them (although my eyes have gone a bit soggy and I have a big lump in my throat somehow, I guess).
Don't always get on with my brother, but I do love the bloody bugger and he's happy at last, going back to NZ as a married man.
Sometimes life doesn't turn out like how you expect - but sometimes that's a good thing.

Happy because I have started to lose weight, sad cos me pants keep falling down!

I feel good... Life is a lot more tollerable and I dont miss the beer!

Lets hope the weekend is as good as I feel now!!

I'm happy today because me and my husband had a great time in Munich the last six days, but it also feels good to back back home! There's no place like home!
