World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany

This weekend marks the start of the World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Aachen, Germany.

The WEG are held every four years and are the major international championships for all things horsy (excluding racing). Events are held in seven fields:Participants from 61 nations will taking part in the action. 500,000 visitors are expected to attend the games during the two weeks of competition.

The games first began in 1990 in Stockholm after Prince Philip suggested the consolidation of six discipline world championships into one event. The games were held in The Hague in 1994, Rome in 1998 and Jerez de la Frontera (Spain) in 2002. The 2010 games are planned for Lexington, Kentucky.

Toytown will be competing with the British eventing team.

Well, I be darned, it's true. (Not that I doubted you, EB)

Toytown is listed among the participants in the "Eventing" discipline.

With 2 out of 3 of the "Eventing" events completed, Zara Phillips and Toytown are in the lead in the individual competition and the Germans lead the team competition. Zara and Toytown look to finish things off in the Jumping competition today.
