Hi All,
We are bunch of enthusiastic cricketers playing every Sunday morning at 9am at the football grounds on Franklinstraße / Strehlenerstraße near the Dresden Hauptbahnhof.
The cricket scene in Dresden was pretty good until last year. We used to have anywhere between 20-40 players showing up every weekend and most being students at the Technical University. As is usually the case, the students graduate and move on. The incoming numbers to the TU have decreased lately. So, we are down to about 10-15 guys for our weekend games.
We are currently looking for players to join us to play the game and of course, for us to experience different styles of play. Equipment is no issue, since we have all the required stuff.
The current plan is to play a few matches against the cricket team of Leipzig around mid-September. If you want to be part of it, please join us in the run-up to this event. As a fore-runner we intend to play some games among the Dresden players (which is a weekly activity anyway).
Directions to the ground - head southwards from the Hauptbahnhof along Strehlenerstraße (with the DB train tracks to your left). After a ~5 minute walk, you would arrive at the ground - next to Hotel Europa.
If you have any questions and/or want to get onto our mailing list for activity updates, do post a reply here.

Hi All,
The big game of the season happens over the weekend. The team from Dresden takes on the Leipzig team on Sunday, September 17th at Leipzig. The venue is a football ground within Sport forum, which is close to the Zentralstadion, Leipzig. The address is:
Jahnallee 59,
04109 Leipzig
The start time is 1300hrs and it would be a 20 overs-a-side game. A crowd of about ~70-100 is expected.
Those of you living in Leipzig might have already come across a few posters advertising this game. You can find some information in the following link:
http://www.uni-leipzig.de/~ras/index.php?id=54You are invited to the game and are encouraged to bring your friends along. There will be live commentary in German and English intermittently. Besides some brochures indicating the basic rules of Cricket will be distributed.
At the end of the match, there is a plan to show a game of Cricket (Ashes '05 or from the world cup / Natwest series) on the big screen . Hopefully that materializes
Obviously, the entry is free!
Your presence will be greatly appreciated and that would surely help in promoting the game in this part of the country.
If you have any queries, drop in a line to: cricket dot dresden at googlemail dot com.
Cheers,

Hello Folks,
Aided by an early Spring, the Cricket season has kicked off in the right earnest in Dresden. We started about 5 weeks ago.
We play every Sunday from 10AM onwards at the location mentioned in the first post of this thread. Everyone's welcome to join.
As of now, we are playing with hard tennis balls. Towards the end of the Summer, a
DCB affiliated club is on the cards in Dresden. This would facilitate indoor Cricket during the winter and besides, leather ball Cricket all-year round.
On Pfingsten Sonntag, the team from Leipzig might be visiting us. More details will be posted here in due course.
Hope to see you at our Sunday Cricket matches!
Cheers,
Sudhi

Hi Astor,
Apologies for the late response.
You are welcome to join us. We have practice sessions every Saturday morning starting at 9am. The venue is the sports ground at the intersection of Holbeinstrasse and Thomaestrasse in Johananstadt. We practice with leather ball and have most of the equipment.
Our usual Tennis ball Cricket games on Sundays have not taken place for the last few weeks.
Let me know if you are interested in joining us on Saturday. If you think it's hard to find the venue, you can come over to the parking garage in front of Markthalle at about 8:40am and I'll give you a ride. Send me a PM...I'll check back later this evening.
@ Vicar:
You funny guy
Dude, we are coming over to Leipzig for a triangular tournament in September...same venue as last year. A team from Stuttgart is also going to be there. Besides, the folks in Halle have a real cricket pitch now. So, we hope to sneak in a game against them before winter sets in. If you are active with the Halle CC, then I'll probably meet you over there.

Hi there
Great to see that cricket is alive and well in Dresden. I work in the UK but am also based in Dresden. I would love to join you one Saturday for a practice session. I know the Sportsplatz off Holbeinstraße, but unfortunately I don't have any cricket gear with me in Germany. Is it Ok just to turn up?

Hi All,
The cricket season'08 here at Dresden CC starts off today.
Since the end of last season, there have been a few positive developments at our end. We (the cricketers) joined the enthusiastic Rugby club here in Dresden (Team Hillbillies) and have started a Cricket section in there. Following that, we also have our home ground in the Ostra Sports park, which is in the eis sportshalle area (near Bahnhof mitte). If you ride along the ElbeRadweg on the south side of the river westwards from Altstadt, you will pass by the ground.
We have put up an all-season artificial pitch and played a couple of internal games on it. It's been brilliant!
During this season, we will play in the Berlin B league and also have all of the Berlin A league teams visiting us for friendlies. We will start our season's campaign today with a game against the Berlin Cricket club#2 (starting at noon). There is a game against Schwerin tomorrow and that starts off at 10am. There's another game slated for next Saturday against Berlin Cricket Club#1.
You are welcome to stop by and have a glimpse of these games. If you do not know this area well, please make use of this
map. The ground is behind the Freiberger Arena, adjoining several football fields and a Rugby field.
Things have been in a bit of a muddle over the last few weeks due to all the work involved in organizing & fixing up the pitch. So, our practice schedules are not yet fixed. I will update it here, when it's decided.
As of now, the club members are predominantly Indians and Aussies, with a fair sprinkling of English, Pakistani, Kiwi & German players. If you are interested in joining the club to either play or learn to play the game, we will be delighted. We are happy to assist and teach the game to beginners. You can send us an email on DresdenCC at yahoo dot com.
I will update this thread more often with relevant information.
Regards,
Sudhi

I tried to persuade my little boy to go along and let him try it out (he's 8) but he refuses!

Hi All,
After our first weekend of Cricket at Dresden Cricket club, we have gotten off the mark. Among the two games last weekend, we lost the first one (a friendly) to BCC2 by 7 wickets, while we won the Sunday's (Berlin B league game) against Schwerin by 7 wickets. Since it's still early in the season, playing a 40 over game on one day followed by a 25 over game the next, left us panting. Hope that was good preparation though for the match against Berlin cricket club today, which is a 50 over game.
It starts off from ~11am and goes on till ~5pm. As always, everyone is welcome.
Hi Anne,
It's nice to hear that someone with a knowledge of the game stays close to that location. It's a pity though that your kid did not join us. We have kids coming along mostly during Sunday practice sessions.
Anyhow, we will reduce our activity in that sportplatz to bare minimum. Our practice will now take place in the Ostragehege, unless some Rugby fixtures are slated for the same timeslots. We are building up a youth team at our club and a 12 year old got a game against Schwerin last weekend. If you are interested in bringing your kid along to a youth practice session, let me know and I will be sure to send you the details.

Sudhi

Hi All,
It's been a while since my last update. Things have been going well at DresdenCC. Though we weren't able to break down the resilient Berlin Cricket club#1, we have won games against Leipzig and Viktoria#2 from Berlin. Last Sunday, we defeated Britannia-Berlin by 167 runs. Our real test is slated to take place later today, when we take on the Bundesliga champions, DSSC-Berlin. It will be a 50 overs-a-side game starting off at 1030hrs and will go on until ~1830hrs (unless we fold up early

).
There's more cricket slated for the upcoming weekends - A couple of Prague teams will visit us on July 27th and Aug 3rd respectively. We will head out to Berlin for a double-header 20/20 Sunday on Aug 10th.
If you are in Drs and have some time to spare, feel free to stop by. I have attached a map, which might help in locating the ground within the Ostra sports park.
Cheers,

Hi All,
The Cricket season has been a good one thus far. We lost to DSSC by 70 runs in a high scoring affair, but were able to beat Prague CC by five wickets a week later. A couple of 20/20 wins in Berlin against the Stragglers CC and British Embassy got us into the Berlin "B" league final.
The Berlin "B" league final will take place tomorrow (Aug 30th) at DresdenCC's ground in the Ostra sports park.
Start of the game: ~1030
Opponents: Berlin cricket club#1
Format: 20/20
The final will be followed by barbecue and another friendly 20/20 game against BCC#1.
All are welcome.

DresdenCC has won the Berlin "B" league!
BCC#1 opted to bat first and finished with 119/9 in 20 overs.
BCC were on top for a while, as they raced to 42/0 off 5 overs. Thereafter, regular wickets proved to be their undoing. During the chase, DresdenCC were in spots of bother at 13/2 and 52/3. Thereafter the fourth wicket partnership put the contest beyond doubt.
DresdenCC got the required runs in 15 overs with seven wickets to spare.
DCC will play in the Bundesliga Ost next year and also field a second team for the Berlin B liga.
Our next game is on the Sep 6th in Berlin against DSSC.
Cheers,
Sudhi

Anaxagoras
Based on the original schedule, we were supposed to play BCC3 on Aug 30th and the semis+final were slated for the first weekend in October. BCC3 & DCC were the only unbeaten teams in the league and the other B liga teams were unanimous that the eventual winners will be either of the two teams. Since typical October weather is hardly suitable for Cricket, the final was advanced to Aug 30th.
In order to have a keen tussle, BCC suggested to get their best XI along. From DCC's perspective, it was alright since we enjoy playing their first XI anyways.
Hope this helps.

Matthew,
You are welcome to join us in Dresden. You can find the maps to the ground in this thread.
There is a relatively new cricket team in Leipzig and are currently on the hunt for an appropriate ground. They are scheduled to participate in the Dresden Cricket tournament, which takes place on Sep 13th & 14th. Prague CC is the third team.
The Leipzig team have their first game on Sep 14th at ~10am. It would be a good idea for you to come along on Sep 14th to check out the facilities here and also meet the Leipzig cricketers. If you can't make it, I'll be happy to provide you the contact details of the Leipzig captain.
See you,
Sudhi
