Does anyone have any experience of the Munich Toastmasters?

Is there any difference between the English speaking Munich Toastmasters and the Munich Prostmasters?

It’s all very well being the strong, silent type but I’m sure more experience in public speaking wouldn’t harm my career.

Possibly a different language. wink.gif

Hi Grinner,

actually they’re both in English. I checked their site. So, apart from being on different days I was wondering if one was more business orientated or something.

I think one is smaller than the other, but not sure which. Probably the newer one. It *was* on my to do list but I never got around to it for one lame reason or another. If memory serves me correctly though, non-members can attend both group's sessions to check it out.

I have visited both the clubs and they have approx. the same number of members. You could visit them as a guest and then decide which one you would like to join as a member.

Possibly a different language.

Well after the meeting you could also join the members for a couple of drinks, where one club says "Cheers" and the other "Prost". tongue.gif

Dear PWNN,

I am a member of TM (actually VP of public relations so this is the ideal opportunity to make a pitch for TM). You can come along as a guest as often as you like but if you are interested in getting up there and making a prepared speech you will want to join !

Here is some info for anyone that is interested in coming along:

Meetings (English language Munich Toastmasters):

Every 1st and 3rd Tuesday in the BMW Nachbarschaftsforum in Riesenfelderstrasse (U3 Petuelring).

Start time 19.00.

Duration: 2 hours (afterwards possibility to socialise in nearby pub).

Members are a mix of native and non-native speakers from the 4 corners of the world.

Membership is EUR 28 every 6 months. No commitment, just pay if you want to stay.

Speaking and leadership-skill programmes offered, also speaking and appraisal competitions with other clubs in the region.

Here is the website (a bit out of date, will be updated in September):

Looking forward to seeing many TT'ers at the next meeting (5th Sept) ! Don't forget to say where you heard about it !

THis could also be of interest to me. I couldn't make the September meeting, but will probably come along sometime in the future.

jml has nagged encouraged me to try this so I'm considering going - if someone would like to come along with me, to hold my hand so to speak, that would be great!

I always like to start an evening on a cultural high with a quote from Homer,

Who said

If I could just say a few words...I'd be a better public speaker.

Homer simpson.

I'm member and Secretary of the Munich Prostmasters club. It is a great club with over 40 member. The club is English speaking only. The club meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesday, between 18:30-20:30 at the Amerika Haus. It's always fun, we often have a motto for the evening and we go to a pub after every meeting. As with all the other Toastmaster clubs in Munich, you can come as a guest as often as you like. Once you decide to join the club, you will be presented with a Membership Kit including the first 10 speeches you will hold. It's an ongoing process providing you with information on how to set up a speech correctly, how to use body language, eye contact and so on. TM is a great way to enhance your communicational and leadership skills while learning in a 'safe' environment with nice people around who are always up for a beer or two after the club meeting.
So, just come along and find out yourself biggrin.gif

Thank you all.

I think I'll do as suggested and try-out both Toast- and Prost- masters.

As soon as I get over this near-deadly influenza-blokus.

Is the membership fee waived for anyone able to pronounce the above without stumbling? rolleyes.gif

Just check the wiki here, I updated the entries. Some of the (English-speaking) expats here in Munich have been using the opportunity to utilize and improve Language skills in German, French and Italian as well. Guests do not pay any fees but without membership its only half the fun.
