Yesterday an old friend of mine, a Scot from Falkirk, visited us and as we chatted away about DVDs, music etc. he told us about the early 70's when he used to drive to Wigan Casino 3-4 times a year, dancing the night away to Northern Soul.

It was very interesting, I (not being British and a few years younger) had never heard of Northern Soul, but I love to hear such stories.
Nice to see how his face lit up telling us about the time when people wouldn't let him off the dance floor because they enjoyed watching him and his friends dancing, and how this was the greatest time of his life, cos he felt like a king.

What are your memories of your teenage and early twen time? Which music did you grow up with?

Seeing me now it might sound quite funny, but I was a Punk.
Yeah, well, more of a wannabe Punk, laugh.gif quite a sad act I must say looking back today.
I was running around in an old army parka, the words "NO FUTURE AT ALL" written with edding on the back, listened to the Sex Pistols, Ruts, Siouxie And The Banshees... the hair was short as a match, one side blonde, the other black... fortunately there are no photographic evidences rolleyes.gif
I was driving my mum nuts by wearing ripped clothes - but she carried on keeping 'em clean... tongue.gif

Any memories you would like to share?

My old man always goes on about the Golden Torch. Funny cause there is still quite a Northern Soul scene in Stoke.

Few pics from my uncles boozer

Live psychodelic bands at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco in the 60's. The music was mostly merde but it was fun for kids. Sorry, the pics are in California.

I remember my older brother and his mates going to Wigan Casino for the Northern Soul all-nighters in the late 70's. I think the place burnt down in early 80's. There was also the Twisted Wheel in Manchester.

I think I had my head in the clouds (or just in my room) in the mid 80s listening to The Smiths. The Smiths are like Marmite - you love it or hate it.
