For those of you not signed up to the touch rugby forum here is some info on the annual "Greenstone Hook" touch rugby competition between France and Germany.

This friendly will take place in Frankfurt on the weekend of the 23/24th September. There will be a men's, women's and possibly a mixed competition. This year's competition will be hosted by the fairly new Frankfurt team who play at SC1880 amd Touch Deutschland.

Although this is a "Länderspiel" and only German nationals and those who qualify by residency can play in this match, feel free to come along for the day, watch some fast and exciting games of touch and, if you are interested in playing yourself, make contact with the Frankfurt team's organisers. Quite a few TT'ers from Munich will be making the trip, so this will also be a good opportunity to meet up.

more info on the Frankfurt team can be found on this thread:

There is talk of the Frankfurt guys who are not eligible to play for Germany organising an ex-pat team, Barbarian style, to play against both France and Germany, so even if you can't play for the national side, this might be an opportunity for you! Feel free to pm me and i will then pm you Anje's telephone number and email address.

I just recieved an email saying that games are due to start between 9:30 and 10am. The women are up first. In total there will be 3 women's 3 men's and 3 mixed games.

All support is welcome and encouraged!

not very good actually, turns out I should try to aim more carefully instead of trying to watch at the same time. And wait until the action gets closer to where I'm sitting. But better than nothing. Nice antenna on top of the Hessischer Rundfunkgebäude.

Well, we all had a fantastic weekend. Special thanks to the Frakfurt Touch group and to Rob from Berlin for organising the event and also for providing us Munich players with somewhere to stay.

The standard of the touch was very impressive and was at times very nailbiting. It was most enjoyable to play and to ref the matches.

Here are the final results:

Mens:

Germany won 3 out of three games

Womens:

Germany won 1, lost 1 and drew 1

Mixed:

Germany won 1 and lost two games.

This was the first time since inaugeration of the Greenstone Hook Cup that Germany have managed to beat France in the team event (ie all scores counted), and follows on nicely from their victories over France in the European Championships in Edinburgh this summer. So a big well done to all players!
