We are sending out 'save the date' cards for our wedding next year and made a magnet and have alittle poem we want to use, but we need it translated into German for half the guests but would like it to rhyme still... heres the poem..any ideas?
Our day is fast approaching
and we can hardly wait
so put this magnet on the fridge
and be sure to save the date.
It doesn't hafta be an exact translation, but something along those lines. And I guess Germans (or atleast Austrians) don't really put magnets on fridges..so it can be 'put the...'anywhere really...
Ok thanks!
Here is
freetranslations effort..
QUOTE
Unseren Tag schnell nähert und wir können kaum so stellt diesen Magneten auf den Kühlschrank und warten
unbedingt das Datum zu sparen.

Please don't use that free translation, it's awful.
Mine's not great either but it at least makes sense, even if not flowing or gramtically perfect, but it sort of rhymes:
Unser Tag kommt immer naeher,
Wir koennen es kaum warten!
Auf den Kuehlschrank mit diesem Magnet und
Damit buchen wir bei euch das Datum.

I thought Germans say, Ich kann es kaum erwarten.
But a great job.

dimmer's translation has the same rhyme scheme as the English poem.

hehe 'dieses Ding'
It does not neccessarily refer to you know what ... It's just thing(y). Very innocent
The German word Magnet just doesn't do it like the English word magnet does. Actually had a discussion about this in the kitchen before posting my (okay, stop hitting me, OUR) translation.

Immer näher rückt der Tag;
Wir schaffen's kaum zu warten ...
Das Datum merkt euch bitte gleich -
Ich hafte ja von allein!
I think the word 'Magnet' spoils the rhyme. Maybe you could put the above close enough, so that it's clear what sticks (haftet). A bit of proofreading from a native-speaker would be appreciated.
Or
Das Datum merkt euch bitte gleich -
Wir woll'n ja pünktlich starten.
That, at least rhymes.

well - not to be horrid ...
yours doesn't rhyme

Immer näher rückt der Tag;
Wir schaffen's kaum zu warten ...
Das Datum merkt euch bitte gleich -
Der Kühlschrank steht im Garten.???

I thought the title was "Wedding day porn". How disappointing.

I like that. And would be even more motivated to rhyme away in any language if that was the theme.
Waiting for the go-ahead from the thread-starter, though

@dimmer You could be a bit nicer ... even without the porn. Now mine rhymes too - so there!

Dimmers Vorschlag ist super, dies nur eine kleine Modifikation.
All the best for your project!

Ok, how about this one:
Marriage sucks
But so do divorce lawyers
But marriage might suck more.
Does any part of that rhyme?

thanks for the suggestions... i think dimmers and dr. schmidts are pretty close to what we r looking for... the only problem is that my fiance must think his relatives are too 'slow' to realize that its a magnet... thats why we (he) wanted to include 'magnet' in the poem. So if anyone has a way of getting the msg across in the poem that its a magnet that would be great. Otherwise we'll just hafta use word of mouth to get the msg across.
Ok well thanks again for the help!

Bald schon wird unsre Hochzeit sein
das Datum zieht uns mag(net)isch an
pappt dies Teil hier an den Kühlschrank
damit ihr immer denkt daran
I'd say most people would know what to do with it anyway, we're not talking of a high-tech device but of a fridge magnet
