Domain registrars for both .de and .com

hiya,

I'm looking for some ideas here on what to do.

I have a package from Strato, that has domain registration and hosting put together (not the best way to do things I know, but then again I didn't purchase it). So I have 3 domains, two .de and one .com, and hosting.

Now I've have new hosting with a company in Ireland and I want to get access to change the DNS settings to point to the new domain. But the messed up way that strato do it, they don't allow you to change the DNS settings (easily, I will come back to this later). So I fire them an email and ask if it is possible to split the hosting and the registration, to that they answer no.

So now, I think I need to do is, find a new registrar, apply for a domain name transfer, separate the domain control that way. And then I can finally ditch Strato.

So 2 things, does this make sense, as in is it possible ? And can anyone recommend a domain registrar that does both .de and .com domains, that will possibly take a Lastschriftverfahr (sp ? ) or a Dauerauftrag from a Germany a/c yearly ?

PES
1&1.de

wyng : why recommend it if it's slow and they don't allow transfer ? ?

PES : 1&1 seem to want to sell me email hosting at the very least with my domain. I just want to register the domains.

They offer all options. I am moving my site from to States to 1&1 as I save 5$ a month.

well, I would recommend it if u are trying to register a NEW domain name.

Even T-online want to give you an email address

and FYI wyng : We're sorry. The TLD you entered, .de, is not supported by Yahoo!. Please search for a different domain name with one of the following extensions: .com, .net, .org, .us, .biz, or .info. http://order.sbs.yahoo.com/ds/DomainSearch...&m=&d=booool.de

You should be able to cancel the hosting package at Strato, but still keep the .de domain registered with them. Although you might have to re-register the domain for another 12 months in order to get it into a registration-only package.

I did something similar, but the other way round. I had a .co.uk domain regsitered and hosted at a UK provider, but now I've just got the domain registered and the DNS forwards to my hosting on a Strato server here in Germany.

I doubt you'll find a non-German provider that will take a Lastschrift. More likely you'll have to do it with a credit card.

You own the domain names. They cannot stop you from transfering the hosting to whomever you want.
