Apparently only Easyjet flights from Gatwick suspended not all flights

You can only get on a plane with your baby's milk if the accomanying passenger tastes its first... so here's my breast milk

This is nothing unusual these days. I had to drink warm water from a thermos to enter the US Consulate here in Munich a year ago, to apply for a passport for my daughter. They wouldn't have let me bring it in, but it was meant to be mixed with formula for a bottle. I assume it's still policy.

BHX LH flights are go! See you all soon, me is offski.
Ratboy
Good luck! Hope it all goes smoothly

Seems that the majority, if not all, Easyjet flights cancelled... balls.

I bet all the terrorists are now busy devising a handy bomb that can be assembled out of nappies, spectacles and credit cards...

Looks like all INTERNAL and EUROPEAN flights into and out of LHR have been suspended until at least 14h00 GMT.

All BA INTERNAL and EUROPEAN flights into and out of LHR today have been suspended.

so you can't read, you can't write, can't play games on your toys or listen to music... don't think i'll be making a transatlantic flight out of the UK any time soon, i'd be bored out of my skull

safety first

i am staying in munich this weekend :-(

I think the debate about the actions of the authorities, as well as their trustworthiness or otherwise, now goes on the other thread.

Edit: I see the posts I was referencing have already been moved.

The US has also now increased security for flights within the US. No liquids or gels are allowed in carry-on luggage there, except for prescription meds and baby formula.
Della
The 21:15 BA flight to Heathrow is cancelled, just spoke to BA on the phone and they have no availability tomorrow, even the waiting lists are full tomorrow.

So we're on a waiting list on saturday, it's really messed up our weekend. But BA were very helpful and said if we didn't get on the plane saturday we'd get a full refund even though it was a cheapy ticket.

They changed our return leg too with no problems.

So hopefully that waiting list isn't too long!!

I'll call them tomorrow to get the latest.
tigress
I was supposed to be flying to the UK tomorrow night for my cousins wedding saturday...Im sure glad I ended up not being able to afford to go anyway!
planetmoni
della, i have a ticket for the same flight, i will reschedule for another flight in the next 2 weeks...at no extra cost
cinzia
I'd say it's only fair for people who might be planning to fly to the UK for fun/holiday in the next few days, and who can change their plans without fees, should do so to help allow the backlog to clear up.

Looks like flying to or through the UK this weekend won't be much fun, anyway.

They're saying the no-carry-on rules will continue to be enforced through the weekend, at least.

Whoops - glad I clicked this thread. I'm getting ready to fly from BFE, Wyoming to BFE Minnesota this morning (my time here), Looks like I will have to check everything.
MysteryMan
I was supposed to be flying MUC - LHR - SFO on Sunday morning. Holy shit. One hell of a strange feeling.

Trying to reschedule: MUC - Washington - SFO.
cinzia
You shouldn't have to check everything, DDBug, unless you were only planning to carry on liquids or gels.

Trying to reschedule: MUC - Washington - SFO.

Ugh. You do know that if you connect in the US instead of on this side of the Atlantic, you will face considerably more hassle?

In Washington, you will have to claim your bags, re-check in for the flight to SFO, and check your bags in again. They won't check your bags through.

If you want to re-route, I'd try to change my connection to somewhere else in Europe.
DDBug
Well, French wine (yes, one bottle has lasted this long), a bottle of witch hazel (which tends to leak in checked luggage) and the kids' electronic toys and my laptop. At least I'll be prepared now if they do start getting picky. rolleyes.gif

Just watched interviews with passengers on the news. Once woman saying that the airlines should have a contingency plan for these kind of things. Like what! Another moaning that she had to open a seal box of baby milk and taste it and she couldn't understand why as it was sealed - can't things be unsealed and resealed quite easily!

What do these people want, an announcement from the airlines saying "ok, we've found a few pilots with a death wish, so if you wish to fly then do so but we can't guarantee your safety". At the end of the day this is all being done to protect them. These moaners are the type that would be first in the queue to sue if anything did happen.

I agree with you, Andrea. Airport delays, like the weather, are not an individual experience.

I'd be a little upset about the baby milk, myself. Depending on how young the baby is, it's pretty easy for them to get sick from contamination from an opened box of milk that someone else has drunk from and can't then be refrigerated to slow down any bacterial growth. Older babies have developed more resistance.

But like you say, if the baby does get sick, she'll no doubt sue!
planetmoni
rather one sick baby then 200 passengers dead...

@MysteryMan
Don't know who your flying with but LH have a direct MUC-LAX (LH 452) and direct MUC-SFO (LH 458) that operate this sunday. I would try to avoid as many changes and layovers as possible. I would also forget anything that takes me near any UK airport.
Jimbo
So seems the plot was aimed at trans-atlantic flights only, a total of 9 aircraft, with three 'waves' of three explosions each planned, all of them using liquid explosives concealed in drinks bottles.
21 arrests have been made, mostly of British born men, most of whom are from families that originate from Pakistan.
EDIT: The carriers included, inter alia, United and American. The destinations, apparently, were five as yet unnamed major U.S. cities.

According to EasyJet website all flights in and out of London Gatwick, Stansted and Luton have been cacelled for the rest of today, plus a host of other flights from across the UK.

I'm supposed to be flying to Sansted tomorrow monring ...

No liquids apart from medicine or baby milk (to be tested by accompanying adult...) allowed. Do they make allowances for addiction to Diet Coke?? huh.gif

Flights from MUC-LHR all cancelled, _but_ the 7.20pm flight (LH) tonight is still planned according to the MUC airport website (The BA flight 10 mins before shows cancelled).

So there may be hope of getting home this w/e

Luckily I'm not flying till tomorrow night...
Darkknight
Last I saw LH flight to the UK were canceled until 1300

Cheers Darknight and cinzia: I'm flying UA blink.gif So it's Washington or Heathrow. I think I'll take my chances with Washington.

@Darkknight

You could be right, I as only checking the later flights, however the BBC site contradicts this somewhat .

Depends what they mean by long and short haul...(IIRC long > 3 hours)
Owain Glyndwr
Lufthansa longhaul direct flights are very good but you certainly pay for the convenience with them. They are usually way more expensive than other airlines that feed you through their hub.
DDBug
I wasn't that prepared sad.gif I had to leave behind a bottle of witchhazel (it leaks) and pack all my makeup and sunscreen in to a checked bag. I just hope the wine bottle doesn't break (it was hard to pad it between light sabers rolleyes.gif)

But the airport in BFE, Wyoming has free wireless internet! smile.gif
Darkknight
@MysteryMan
UA and LH are part of the Staralliance, thus your tix should work for either company (Small fee maybe required)
along with the price difference between UA/LH tickets. I would gladly pay a few 100 Eur more for the convience. Esp now
with all these extra restrictions and gate checks.
MysteryMan
Cheers DK, I'll check it out, but on the phone they only offered Washington (free of charge). Maybe the direct was booked out, they said we were getting the last 2 seats on the Washington flight.

This is obviously a plot by the cheapo airlines so that you have no choice - you have to buy your food & drinks onboard at extortionate prices.
UrbanAngel
Katrina arrived in the UK safe and sound - flight was on time but security took a long time. Normal hand luggage restrictions for flights going into the UK.
Sin
I'm startin' to get really worried. What if one of these terrourists uses the plastic bag to suffocate the pilots?
Darkknight
Or one of the metal ohmy.gif forks they GIVE you on the plane to stab him...
Sin
Oh No! Metal forks??? Surely they would puncture the plastic bags???

Quick! Go to the Highest Security Alert and prepare to pee yer pants!
Bell the cat
I flew to Edinburgh via Amsterdam this morning and noticed nothing in particular out of the ordinary. It was only when I met my family and went on to the funeral that I found out what had happened. Certainly noticed no security crackdown on our KLM flights.
Crawlie
Don't forget the glass bottles of wine you get...

So. Apparently now airlines are introducing SAFE drinks for flights. They have all been scanned and are free of any substances that could be used to make bombs. You are only allowed to consume these drinks on the plane and unfortunately, due to the costly and lengthy process airlines have used to screen these beverages they are no longer free to the consumer.

A bottle of water will cost you 25 Euros
Orange Juice 30 Euros
Alcoholic beverages start at 50 Euros

Apparently airports are also raising landing fees as they are worried that planes booked in to land will not actually reach there destination. The increased landing charges will be shown as an additional "tax" on your tickets and will be an average of 200 Euros depending on location...

Oh yes, and all passengers will now have to travel naked and are required to have full cavity searches before boarding...
DDBug
I found out after arrival that we did manage to accidentally smuggle on toothpaste and shampoo in my son's backpack (they were not allowing any liquids at all) - though they had physically searched my other son's backpack.
Which made me wonder about those liquid gel filled bras... (as seen on Will and Grace last night)
Eleanor Rigby
Nice one DDBug, I think you've found a loophole.
