Hi! hoping someone will be able to help me.

I`ve just returned from trip to UK and whilst there bought a "Tesco Internet Phone". My sister in UK has no problems with it. but, when I try to download the thing, it stops in the middle of registration and notifies me that
"Tesco internet phone was unable to create a session on the server.
Reason: TCP/UDP IP error 10022 "
I have no idea what that is, or how to deactivate it!
Would be most thankful for any help.
( apologies, if i`ve sent this to the wrong thread. )
dusie.

Also make sure that if you have a DSL router that correct ports are open and forwarded to the phone.

This is a windows socket creation error. Sounds like an incorrect windows network configuration, a router/firewall restriction (most likely) or possibly (but unlikely) a provider (ISP) port block. Check the documentation for what, if any open ports are required on your router or firewall.

Can't imagine why you would want to use it, however. There are zillions of better ways to make cheap or free phone calls around the planet... Neither can I see Tesco calling becoming a "big thing soon..." If you really want to go down this path look at Skype, which offers more functions, similar (or better) pricing and is half-way (but no more) decent. Of course, you don't get Tesco Clubcards points with Skype, which may be a decisive factor in your choice.

freecall sells under a number of brands AFIAK. I use their www.internetcalls.com version, deposit €10 / month and you can call US/IE/UK/DE landlines for free and mobiles are quite cheap too, you have to use the credit in 120 days though. But roughfully €2.50/month for cheap calls is okay with me.

I use Skype for conference calls as you can call up to 8 people at a time.

They are part of a somewhat (allegedly) shady operation call Finarea in Switzerland and Betamax in Germany. See Free calls to many international destinations for more detail. The services are pretty good, but you need to keep on top of constant service and price changes. They now offer international SMS services for €0.05 per SMS and the ability to use their service without the need for VoIP or softphone (simply enter the two numbers you want to connect, usually yours and the one you want to call, then they connect them together at bargain basement rates.

Thanks for the replies and advice!
At long last I managed to set it up last night - It was a `firewall ` problem.
So far, it seems to be exactly what I was looking for - can now chat to my hearts content with my sister in the UK...for free ! biggrin.gif

PS - Why am I receiving so many e.mail notifications ? And, why are they coming from Toytown ( or something) and not from The Britboard ?

The BB and TT are now one and the same.

You probably have PMs from blokes offering their help for favours in return! smile.gif
