Songs of shameful pleasure

Admit your bad taste here

Guardian article on Q Magazine's Guilty Pleasures - the songs the UK loves but does not want to admit to liking.
Here's the Top 10
1 Livin' Thing - ELO
2 More Than A Feeling - Boston
3 Don't Stop Movin' - S Club 7
4 I'm Not in Love - 10CC
5 Rock 'n' Roll Part 2 - Gary Glitter
6 Cold As Ice - Foreigner
7 Rebel Yell - Billy Idol
8 Whatever You Want - Status Quo
9 Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
10 I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
Personally, I wear my lack of highbrow taste with pride and freely admit to owning every Kylie CD including the Stock Aitken and Waterman ones.

QUOTE
Sean Rowley, the DJ who invented the Guilty Pleasures club night, also gives his top 10. At No 1 is 10CC's Dreadlock Holiday but also in his list is Dolly Parton's 9 to 5, Hall and Oates' Maneater and Neil Diamond's Love on the Rocks.
Sharon Osbourne tells the magazine that she does her housework to Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart - yes, her housework. And Cliff Richard reveals that Devil Woman (No 41) is his favourite vocal performance "because it is my kind of rock'n'roll."
While there are some songs on the list that you might admit to a close friend you like, there are others which will go to the grave a secret. None more so than Dennis Waterman's I Could Be So Good For You (No 35) - "a wonderful beer-fuelled romp."

Sorry but I love Devil Woman (for me that's the best ever Cliff song by miles) and as for Dennis Waterman, the "I'm gonna love ya!" bit deserved a Grammy. End of.
So what are your songs of guilty pleasure (although I'm against shame per se - see above)?

EDIT: 3 Lions, this thread is dedicated to you my friend
Toast
wait a minute- what's wrong with ELO?
Yeti
Rosanna from Toto must be in there somewhere, not that I'ld know, I'm too busy listening to my Jewel albums.

Anything where Jim Steinman was wielding his songwriting cudgel has to get a honorable mention. The aural equivalent of eating dried trifle mix (or munching Jello crystals for the USA faction), it's wrong but hey you've started so you might as well finish it.
Eleanor Rigby
Hooked on a Feeling

I love the ooga-chuckas tongue.gif
EDIT: Blue Swede (also on the soundtrack of Reservoir Dogs)

I've got far too many to list huh.gif

You know what, the first thing I thought when I saw this thread title was Rosanna . For some reason I've heard that on the radio a lot here, and I never listen to radio. So, I admit to loving Rosanna. For that, I will forgive you for owning Jewel albums (for today, anyways)

hmm.. so:

1. Rosanna: Toto
2. Small Town Boy: Bronski Beat
3. Don't Stop Believing (among others): Journey
4. Steppin' Out: Joe Jackson
5. Maneater: Hall & Oats
6. Horse with no name: America
7. Rock Lobster: B52's
8. Hazy Shade of Winter: Bangles
9. You Should Be Dancing: Bee Gee's
10. She Bop: Cyndi Lauper

..might be some American ones. I admit to it anyways.

"Hey I've been watching you
Every little thing you do

Wish I could make it real, but your lips are sealed...that ain't no big deal...

Sorry but I think there's a difference between shameful pleasures and commiting an offence worthy of being burned at the stake. The above two posts implicitly prove this point.
Johnny English

Just saw this in GeorgiaGirls profile. I have this album. It is the rather nattily titled "Fatherfucker" and the first track is called "I don't give a shit". Clever and witty lyrics as follow:

You know
I wanna tell you something
I wanna tell you something
You know what?

I don't give a damn about my reputation
I don't give a fuck!
I don't give a fuck! I don't give a fuck!
I don't give a fuck! I don't give a fuck!

I don't give a damn about my reputation
You know what else?
I don't give a shit! I don't give a shit!
I don't give a shit! I don't give a shit!
(I don't give a damn about my reputation)

I don't give a fuck! I don't give a fuck!
I don't give a fuck! I don't give a fuck!
I don't give a fuck! I don't give a fuck!
I don't give a fuck! I don't give a fuck!

I don't give a damn about my reputation
I don't give a shit! I don't give a shit!
I don't give a shit! I don't give a shit!
I don't give a shit! I don't give a shit!
I don't give a shit!

I don't give a damn about my reputation
Fuck, shit
Fuck, shit
Fuck, shit
Fuck, shit

I don't give damn, I don't give damn
I don't give damn, I don't give damn
I...Don't...Give...A...Damn...
Sin
That's Amore by Dean Martin. I love this song... always have done since I was a nipper and could hear my mum downstairs playing it on the old Bush (that one where you could stack 6 records).

Funny thing is, just after Ian Dury died I was driving to Heathrow on a Friday morning and listening to Desert Island Discs on Radio 4 (because I knew that they were going to do Ian Dury from a programme recorded just before he died). He obviously went for some Gene Vincent (the man had taste after all), and then he comes to a piece that he explained how he had to keep his love of it quiet throughout his punk days for fear of ridicule. They they started to play... That's Amore by Dean Martin.

I nearly fuckin' crashed laughin'. laugh.gif

ER, you missed the point. Both the "friend" and his "girlfriend" are away from the house while she is doing that... it is good to watch it, but it is shameful in the same time that it makes me cheer up... smile.gif Devilish, no?
I couldn't find the original video to post that one, since Kelly is on some tour now, looks like, and everybody is posting videos of her live performances right now, I have no patience to browse over 4,000 live videos for a studio one... smile.gif

However, here is another one, sweeter version, I still feel ashamed for rocking along with this girl, but she is goooood, hm:

Miss Independent - Kelly Clarkson
nuwoman
I used to work in radio and just went through my CD collection...

The worst songs have got to be:
1. My heart will go on(Titanic theme)-Celine Dion
2. The Barbie song
3. What is love? -Haddaway

Yugh!
Topsy
I have to say, there's been some strange suggestions on this thread...
to me, there's absolutely nothing shameful about liking e.g. B52's Rock Lobster, Killing Joke's Eighties, quite the opposite in fact.

And Something's Gotten Hold of my Heart is one of my favourite songs EVAH, and I do not feel even a tiny inkling of embarrasment about admitting it. It's FAB!

*boots up computer and plays it full volume, while singing along with tears in eyes*
Yeti
Okay if Sin is out of the closet I can admit to my Dean Martin problem, but mine is "Little ol' winedrinker me".

As well as a plethora of Elvis songs, which are obviousky coded messages from a higher power.
