How to get to Hockenheim

Travel options for the F1 Grand Prix

Hi,

an Asian colleague is visiting at the moment, and he really wants to go to Hockenheim this weekend. He has no ticket, and can't drive. Can anyone recommend how to get there etc.?

thanks!

Bicycle? Hike? Bit far I guess. What do you mean by no ticket? No train ticket? He could invest in a Schoenes Wochenende ticket for a mere 25 Euros.

go to the DB homepage and for his destination, tell him to put in Hockenheim Bahnhof. takes about 3-4 hours. without a BahnCard, he'll be forking out over 100 EUR on a train ticket for a fast connection.

he might get in, but STO seats were 100 EUR. scalpers will gladly charge more.

What do you mean by no ticket?

probably meant Formula 1 entrance ticket.

EDIT: I should add, it was a bitch to get a hotel this past week. No rooms from Th-So. and f*cking overpriced for shit holes with no ventilators!!

Thanks -train it is. And yes when I say no ticket -it's a ticket for the race.

He should still be ok to get a General Admission ticket. Either that or you can climb the trees around the circuit and get a good view.

I'm reviving this thread from the dead to see if anyone has any recommendations on places to stay around Hockenheim. Heidelberg, Mannheim, etc come to mind. Would Frankfort be too far out to make the drive to the track each of the three days?

I live in Düsseldorf now, but plan on making a full weekend of the trip. Anyone have any specific hotels they could recommend?

i have no idea which ones are good as i live in Mannheim but on Meine stadt under branchenbuch they have smaller hotels.
Meine stadt mannheim

I can tell you Frankfurt might be a bit too far to travel as its about 45mins from Mannheim in the other direction from Hockenheim.

Speyer is very conveniently situated ...

First of all you will not get a hotel in Hockenheim or immediate surrounding areas, also stay away from the big chains, ie the Marriot charges something like €400 a night.

For Heidelberg locations you can try the Dubliner which is the Irish pub on Hauptstr and you get a great Irish breakfast too.

Also the Neckar hotel is a good location, just off Bismarkplatz. Frankfurt imo is definitely too far, unless you leave at the crack of dawn as the traffic on race days is horrendous. From Heidelberg it is about 30min drive to the track and then around 30-1hr wait to get directed to parking dry.gif .

I put an email in to the proprietors at the Dubliner - they've got rooms available, so that looks like a perfect option for my wife and I. Thanks!

Well if you like the apres race fun it's a great location, right in the middle of everything, restaurants etc. Hope you enjoy the race.
