Settling in Munich

I'm coming to live in Munich for six months of a gap year from September. I'm living in Laim on Landsbergerstrasse, and know nobody in the city! How should I meet up with other people of similar age, how long does it take to reach the Schwabing district from Laim? Any advice on those questions or general advice would be great!

Lots of events and meet ups here on TT to start with.

Try and find people with similar interests.

Will you be working during your gap year? I assume you are about 18? Don't know how many expats are here on their own of a similar age and I guess to meet the locals, you will have to do whatever if it that young people do!

I know nothing about Laim and travel times, it will all become apparent once you get here...

Post some more info about yourself in your profile too. It might encourage people to respond and want to meet you smile.gif

Good luck!

If you're coming here as an Erasmus student then your social life is sorted; there are loads of foreign students and you'll get to know many of them pretty quickly. Within a week or two you'll have a big group of friends and not one of them will be German.

Otherwise, I can't really advise you about meeting people "of similar age" because you haven't provided us with any information (your age, for example...) in your profile. But if you explore this website a bit further, you'll see that there are tons of events organised - there's something for everyone. Start with the events calendar. Or just hang around in the Irish pubs.

Finally, Laim to Schwabing will be 15-20 minutes with one change.

Thanks...I've added some more personal information on my profile. I'm working in Munich but only about 7 hours a day so have long evenings free and weekends too. I already planned to go and visit the Irish pubs -which are the best? - and generally go to bars/clubs etc. Is there a 18-25 year old English speaking crowd in Munich with TT links?

Cheers,
Alex
