Hi there,

Just learned from the German radio news that HMG are considering to close down Rheindahlen and Javelin barracks.

Would anyone in the know be able to enlighten me?

(not fishing for classified information, only what is in the public domain anyway).

Kind regards,
Ben

Here's a bit from the BEEB: Army to withdraw from Germany

QUOTE
A large number of British troops could be pulled out of bases in Germany under plans put forward by the government. ... In January it was confirmed that more than 2,000 soldiers would return to Britain from Germany. The UK currently has about 22,000 troops in the country.

End of an era - I was born in the RAF hospital on this base!

One of my nephews was born in Rheindahlen. But it's about time foreign troops left Germany. Shit, I recall when I first went to work in Bielefeld having to pick up German pronto because these bloody neanderthals would come into bars and if they found out you were English they became fuckin' tough to shake off.

Javelin Barracks has had a short life then since taking over from RAF Brüggen in 2001 IRC?

As for Rheindahlen, it would really surprise me if they closed that place since I'd expect some of the smaller barracks to go before there. But then this is the HMG we're talking about.
