I hate to admit it, but right now I'm listening to "Get Busy" by Sean Paul...
The Demon of The Well - Steeleye Span off the new CD "Bloody Men"
Saw them perform it live last Friday - a very-well done song with interesting instruments (like a steel slide guitar & the Octave violin)...

"Lord Elgin" - Steeleye Span off the new CD "Bloody Men"
Arrrrgh - this is such a catchy tune they'd be in danger of having a hit on their hands if released as a single.
Its a riddle song & took us ages to work out what its about...
Can STRONGLY recommend the album to anyone with a liking for British Folk-Rock (& thats not many people sadly).

British folk-rock... is that like the Levellers?

British folk-rock... is that like the Levellers?
Um. British folk-rock as opposed to US folk-rock (eg Bob Dylan).
THE British Folk-Rock starters were Fairport Convention & Steeleye Span (look in Wikipedia).
Others like Albion Band & so on followed (this is simplistic view).
Whilst Fairport had a great flux in members & apart from Cropedy festival are not much active, Steeleye are in their 37th year & over last few have become even better IMHO (partly helped by new guitarist Ken Nicol). I saw Steeleye a number of times in the early 70s when I was a student in Manchester & now in my old age (& theirs) I've seen then a number of times recently in UK & they are excellent.
The songs are based on old tales: betrayed lovers, murder, haunted houses performed by 5-piece rock group incl electric violin & singing led by the best folk-rock voice around.
Latest CD has a 5-part piece on the industrial revolution (have to admit thats not my favourite but others like it a lot - incl my wife...)
Problem is getting this excellent muscianship across to young generation. Most people at concert
were 60+ I'd say (& the show is LOUD at times) with a few grandchildren there). Our 17 yr-old son likes them very much & came to concert but 14 yr-old daughter isnt interested.
