Saturday opening at Deutsche Bank

No, I'm not having a laugh, this is for real

Deutsche Bank has now started pilot projects of opening certain branches on Saturdays.
Seriously.

This development carries on from their first Saturday branch in Berlin which was billed as the "bank of the future".

The selected branches have a slightly different layout to the traditional German banking style, there are more open plan sections, consulting tables in a café style and, according to my bank manager who was trying to sell me a Bausparplan this morning, the security features are automised (so robbing banks isn't such a good idea per se, but especially not on a Saturday).

DB customers should use the online Filialefinder to find out about Saturday opening near you and then use it lots so that the practice speads (or join DB because I recommended them so that I get a free coffee maker ha ha).

Shame on you, you don't make jokes about stuff like this, not in this country.
Katrina
That's why I put up the picture - I couldn't personally believe it and still won't until I'm actually standing in an open bank on a Saturday.
Carm
yah, Katrina, you and 500,000 other people! wink.gif
Bubble Gum
Yes! Welcome to 1991, Germany, you're gonna love it biggrin.gif.
Katrina
I'm just going to breathe the air in the branch - just because I can.
Carm
go for it girl, I would appreciate my local branch not closing for lunch everyday the same time I have lunch! dry.gif

Now that Germany is leaping into the 90's maybe we'll see some Sunday shopping soon (oh, was that a pig I just saw flying past my window biggrin.gif ).

Anyway I think of course it's going to be really useful being able to go there on a Saturday instead of rushing around in lunch hours trying to get banking done only to find the bank is closed for lunch!

When does this start ? has it already started ? finally the past is catching up with Germany, or is that the future ? hmm... Well I wonder how sucessful Sunday openings were for the shops on Sunday's, and will they also move into the past, sorry I mean future !

Postbank is open Saturdays and has been for at least 2 years.
UrbanAngel
Doesn't anyone use online banking?
ski
Of course I always use the online banking where possible except when I need to pay cash or cheques in. Much as I may try I just can't seem to squeeze the money down the telephone line - Damn Deutche Telekom and their small phone lines smile.gif. So that makes Saturday banking really handy for me.
Katrina
Yes, I usually bank only online (am previous Bank 24 customer who came to DB via a merge) but for someone who has lived here since 1999, I really never thought I'd ever see my bank open on a Saturday.

UA is right. I've been to my bank maybe 3 times in the last 2 years.

I'm scared to online bank ph34r.gif . They had to make me use those machines to do my transactions. I like the whole-people doing my work thing.
Carm
I agree with BG, I am afraid of the internet! ph34r.gif

Well knowing enough about the IT and IT security at Dresdner bank, the idea of using online banking terrifies me. I have heard pretty much the same regarding the other banks from people who work in IT there.

my bank still shuts at 1pm on a Friday. I wonder if this will change anything for other banks. Hope so.
UrbanAngel
Interesting to know. For cheques it makes sense (though I have never even seen a cheque over here) and I guess there are still people who prefer human contact. Not me biggrin.gif

Doesn't anyone use online banking?

Apart from transfers to non-euro countries, yes. And for that I personally don't need a bank to open on a Saturday, especially if that means they'll be putting up their fees.
I'd rather see the post offices open all day Saturday. That would be dead useful.
UrbanAngel
My local post office is open on Saturdays in the afternoon..

This is the same Deutsche Bank that tried to throw out 90% of its customers into a slimmed down version cos they weren't profitable enough right?
And now they're all cosy and customer friendly?

They're just doing this for the free publicity cos they know that everyone else knows how crap and expensivve they are.
AussweissBitte
THEY WILL BE OVERRUN WITH CUSTOMERS, THEN GIVE IT UP--TOO MUCH SERVICE.

Hey thanks for letting me know that the Deutsche Bank in Berlin "bank of the future" is open on Saturdays smile.gif I had no idea and its literally downstairs for me in the building next door. Sweet wink.gif

Anyone know of any Hypovereinsbanks open on Saturday, longshot I know...

If only my bank in Berlin would do that...

I work from 9 am until 5pm - no car. While the Bank is within walking distance of my house, convienently, they are open M-F 9 am to 5 pm and the closest bank to where I work is ALSO the one that is next to my house (yeah - an hour bus ride to the bank from work).

I have online banking and auto deposit of my payments from my work. My main problem? My atm card has been put down on the "wrong" area in a checkstand... thus demagnetizing it. I have to go in to talk to a real "live" person to "prove" that it's not working. They can't just see that there is a problem and/or take my word for it. Even after 10 steps to verify it's really me on the phone. mad.gif

In the meantime, go into the bank during office hours to take funds out. laugh.gif Only, I can't get there during business hours to take funds out, nor can I get there to talk to someone in person, because I work during NORMAL business hours.

All I have to say is THANK GOD I still have an American bank account... one that I can transfer funds into AND get funds out of until I can actually have a real live customer service person here help me. (Of course, they probabally won't since I speak about kindegarden level german...)

They must have stopped doing it at Marienplatz as it was closed three Saturdays when I tried to take advantage of this offering.

We do have 1 or 2 Sundays a year when the shops open in Bad Kreuznach.
One is due soon, its after the grape harvest is in and it gives the wine farmers time to shop.

i must say its a great atmosphere with stalls all over the town with a fair.
Its always very busy, so its good the hear it may expand. do you have ANY Sunday opening in other parts of D. ?
Small Town Boy
We have a Verkaufsoffener Sonntag a couple of times a year, as do most the towns around here. Hate it. Full of car drivers strolling along the street as if they were participating in a slow-walking competition. No reason why they couldn't have come on a different day of the week -- we have six others to choose from!
