The word is out, Klinsmann is not coming back. sad.gif

It's really too bad that they had to be so damn critical before the World Cup, and that they couldn't just let him be in peace in California. I'm from there and I understand the attachment. But more importantly there was just too much pressure, what if the team didn't do well in the future? I think it's really too bad, but I can understand him wanting to end on a high.

The word is out, he's not coming back.

Really? Where?

Like i said before he had the best chance ever with it being at home and i don't think he could have repeated that away from home. But with a job as Coach of Team USA (yeah!) he couldn't lose could he?
jml
Spiegel.De. Can't blame him really. He proved his critics wrong and gave the country a grand time. I can admire anyone that knows when to leave on a high note.

Let's wait and see what he has to say then eh ?

Ah Blue Dave, rumour and conjecture is much more interesting. For example, perhaps I have some reporter friends that heard from their friends that read it on an internet forum that its an evil republican plot - by the presidential hopeful pending constitutional amendment and another blockbuster action movie California Governator - Arnold Schwarzenegger, to make sure he stays in the USA. All your coaches are belonging to US. Mwhahaha ph34r.gif

good one jml laugh.gif

USA takes over World Football ohmy.gif
Crawlie
SZ also said the same thing. One of the reasons he gave was that he had not forgotten the shit he was given before the world cup and that it would take one lost game for it all to come back again.

Germany and the bunch of stuffy nosed, stuck up assholes who think they still run the game, deserve it. I hope they appoint another old-fashioned coach who goes back to the military style play that will ruin their chances to get anywhere in world football ever again. Beckenbauer, hoenessm magath, maier and co (all Bayern Munich tosspots) can go to hell. fucking idiots

Here's the first thing I saw on the internet this morning. ohmy.gif Good for him, tbh. Sad for the German team though.

Edit: oh, I see the people in the "Klinsmann Under Pressure" thread didn't have the decency to start a new thread with the big news. dry.gif.

There's a job opening for him Down Under.

God knows Frank Lowy can afford him. Mind, with a wallet the size of Lowy's, he could afford most of the Premier League.

Sad for the German team. Did he go on his own, was he pushed, or does he think he's too big for his own boots now?
PES
Sad indeed...

German coach Klinsmann steps down
Jurgen Klinsmann
Klinsmann surprised many by taking Germany to third
Jurgen Klinsmann has decided not to continue as Germany coach after two years in charge of the national team.

"I regret his decision, but we have to accept it," said Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder, co-president of the German Football Federation.

Assistant coach Joachim Loew is likely to replace Klinsmann.
Bexy
I think given the way he was treated prior to the world cup, he is well within his rights. Shame really, I think he has a lot to offer. Maybe a return to club management?
Tomasino
Maybe the Mexican food.
The food is WAY better in Southern Cal. And the lifestyle. And he can hang out with his loveydovey at poolside.

Maybe he could semi-retire and just do UCSD or UCLA or USC men's team.

Anyway, obvious question:
Why get stuck in D-Land when there is Newport Beach (and San Diego)?

They should have done one of those:

Off-camera voice:
"Juergen Klinsmann, you just coached the German squad to third in the World Cup, what are you gonna do now?"

Klinsmann:
"I'm going to Disneyland!"

(having bullshat for a minute, I say he picks up an MLS coaching job. Oh, and it's manager or coach, not trainer. Trainers are for dogs and animals (like Italian fakers). Australius semper fidelis)
Showem
Tomasino, you are hardly making earth-shattering predictions there, as he was involved in MLS before becoming German coach.
Tomasino
I think you are confusing him with Jay Goppingen.

I hope the flags don't disappear now. Scogs says that England is bare.
Look at them saying goodbye. Depressed, defeated but not beaten. You know, heroes don't always win ...
Listen to the song. You'll never walk alone. See Klinsmann. He's gonna resign, you heard it here first.

Thank you, Klinsmann, for taking a group of young, talented and inexperienced players, mixing them with the old pros and creating a team that believed in itself, that never gave up, that entertained us with its style and that isn't crying for the moon after coming in "only" third. I hope Löw gets the job and continues the work in your spirit.
Showem
Nah, I'm not talking about "Jay".
QUOTE
Upon retiring from active play, Klinsmann started his commercial career. He became the vice-president of a sports marketing consultancy based in the United States and was involved in Major League Soccer as part of the Los Angeles Galaxy team
Hazza
Interesting...I thought he might stay for a bit longer and take the same players to the European championships. But I can understand him quitting after all the shit he got from so many before the tournament - particularly those within the establishment.

I wonder what Lehmann's going to do now - I guess it depends on who the new coach is.
deep_schismic
Damn, that does suck...I just hope whoever replaces him can find that same positive energy Klinsi tapped into...

edit: as i mentioned in the other post...It'd be be cool if he possibly considered taking up the coaching position for the Socceroos...
Tomasino
Here is something worth reading to know more about him.

That is quite true...Hmmm...And I certainly think in terms of living, he wouldn't mind Sydney or Melb as a replacement to California...Someone should inform the FFA! cool.gif

klinsmann is leaving... :-(
on the one hand, i think it is good that he sticks to his word (only until end of wc), on the other hand i am surprised that he doesn't want to go for the EC. i am however already sick of the trainer debate, every 2 years the same old story...

my very cynic co-worker (who hates klinsmann) always predicted that klinsmann would leave afterwards in order to make money somewhere else. he will make so much money with advertising. his life is in USA, so why stay in germany? ph34r.gif
coolerking
well i heard that he only got paid 500000 euros a year and that he took the job as he thought he had to give something back to germany as they they give him so much.a nice guy who did the job not for money shame we didn't have someone like that for England
Jeeves
Just to be pedantic, he didn't quit, he just didn't renew. Not quite the same thing rolleyes.gif

I don't believe he ever intended to stay on. He is a free spirit and put his home and family first. Good for him.
He's done a great job and let's hope they find someone (most likely Löw) to continue it.

And it serves the Germans right as well. The amount of flak they gave Klinsmann before the world cup was unbelievable. Most were calling for him to be sacked as he was 'useless' and also because he couldn't manage Germany whilst living in the States. Not just the German 'fans' but people like Beckenbauer were also saying he should be sacked pre world cup. And then there was the outrage throughout Germany, the media and the experts when he dropped the underperforming Kahn for Lehmann.

Difference if Eriksson had won the wc or even got us to 3rd is that it would have been in spite of him and not because of him and I would still have been glad to see him go.

A definite loss for German football but you can't blame him really. A genuinely decent bloke who achieved far more than was ever expected of him.

Klinsmann's concentration exercises should be adapted by some people on my ultimate frisbee team:

am glad he's gone, he did a good job and has gone back to his family fair play to him. why stick around here after all the flack he was given pre-WC?
only wish Sven had gone so quietly, and cheaply.

Collecting the arrows:

planetmoni
i am pretty sure any trainer pre-wc would have gotten shit from the press etc.

if one wants to achieve goals in life, other people's opinions and bad mouthing should not deter one. klinsmann has pretty much achieved what he wanted and i guess, his new plans are somewhere else.
HelterSkelter
It's not about any flak or something like that... he just knows, that people are gonna expect him and the team to perform at the same, or even a better level in 2008/2010. He's not stupid and knows that this is gonna be much harder to achieve, than what he did these last weeks. Quitting know, people will allways remember him as the "saviour" of German football.

Just hope it won't be Matthias Sammer who takes over, cause he probably is gonna turn everything back... dry.gif

Wish these old wankers @ the German FA would quit...
Wibble
It wasn't just the press. The DFB threatened him with the sack several times. The pundits and people like Beckenbauer were all calling for his head. It was also made clear that it was unacceptable to live in the US and do the job which was strange as he lived there when he was offered it.

His methods were criticised, his selections were criticised. In fact every single thing he did was criticised. If I were him I wouldn't have reneweed my contract either. Obviously part of the reason is familly but I am not sure that I would have wanted to continue after the witch hunt he had to endure pre world cup. In fact nothing would have given me greater pleasure than to turn round to people like Beckenbauer and say 'sorry mate but partly due to all the shit you and everyone else gave me I won't be renewing my contract'.

There is often a certain amount of criticism levelled at coaches pre world cup but the amount aimed at Klinsmann was pretty excessive.

am sure some of it's to do with flack, like you say he is a clever man so why stick around working his bum off for the guys that had no faith in him in the first place?
he's done his job well and can walk away with his head held high.
which is a whole lot more than can be said for SGE.

@Hazza
as Kahn retired from International Football on Saturday night anyway, there isn't too much competition for Lehmann left apart from Hildebrand.

More to the point what will Ballack do now, especially when he fails to hold down a regular starting place at Chelsea this year?

Klinsmann has confirmed that his main reason for not extending the contract is his family. He expressed his gratitude towards the fantastic team and hopes that Löw will be able to continue his work. He also thanked the DFB for believing in him and said how much he enjoyed the job.
Mayer-Vorfelder is spewing lots of junk, nothing memorable. Please announce now that Löw is taking over.
Now it's Zwanziger is saying that the successor must continue Klinsmann's work but it's Bierhoff's decision.
Yeeeeeeeaaaah, Löw is the coach!!!
sarabyrd
According to Zwanziger none of the players is resigning. Lessee what Bierhoff (who trained as an opera singer and does shampoo ads) has to say.
He calls the team confident, ambitious and hungry. He knows that Löw - who was always more than "just" an assistant - will do the job right, the team is young and still has room for improvement. He's listing Löw's acheivements in the past as head coach and saying that his methods guarantee the standard that Klinsmann set up.
The team is behind Löw, saying if they can't have Klinsmann they want him.

Officially these may be his words, but I doubt these are his true feelings...
Wee Mun
Lippi has resigned as Italy coach as well
sarabyrd
Löw is looking forward to the next two years, meaning his contract runs to the end of the European Cup.
sarabyrd
Klinsmann made his decision in a quiet village in the Black Forest where he'd trained 20 years ago. He realized that he doesn't have the energy any more, the emotional stress was too strong with its ups and downs. He needs a few months to relax and analyse what happened at the World Cup and knows that if he extended the contract he would never have the time to do that and could not see where to begin with corrections and new methods.
He says that dividing his time between the US and Germany did provide the time to see the situation from a different prospective and gather strength. He will continue to consult the team and answer any questions Löw might have.
He also claims the merit for introducing new methods of communication to the management of the national team. That's a slam against Uli Hoeness, FC Bayern's manager, who has never written an e-mail in his life and is proud of it.
Dally M
Klinsmann got no support from Beckenbauer, German media and more importantly the DFB. Why should he want to continue? They slagged him off all the time.Klinsmann is a top bloke and has never really been interested in Money and fast cars. Remember when he was at Tottenham he drove an old Beetle around not some flashy car! He loves his family and quite rightly puts them first.

Klinsmann has only one way to go after this WC if he stayed and thats downhill and he knew it and would of been criticized again by the Bayern Mafia as soon as possible. The Bayern Mafia are a disgrace and not once have they or anybody said sorry or apoligized to Klinsmann of their treatment of him. German Football doesnt deserve to have Klinsmann until their attitude changes. Klinsmann made German Soccer enjoyable and brought much joy to the players and even got Kahn and Lehmann working together! I see German Soccer going backwards again now sadly and mainly because of the people running it.
sarabyrd
He refuses a direct answer to the question if he might return as Nationaltrainer later on. He also denies that he's chickening out of the qualification for the European Cup.
Even if Germany had won, his decision would have been the same.
Löw says that he will remain in Europe but points out that he lives in a corner of Germany where he can be in Switzerland, France or Austria fairly quickly.

Not with Bierhoff and Löw in charge. They'll just shake off any pressure as Klinsmann did as well.
Klinsmann is not interested in coaching the US and has not been and is not now in contact with them.
Löw just pointed out that power isn't everything and people should respect Klinsmann's decision to do his own thing.
Zwanziger is not excluding the possibility that Klinsmann might join the DFB again as consultant.
Thank you, end of press conference.
groundhopper
Klinsmann chose the right time to "jump off". The expectations in the qualifiers would have been very high.
The critics from the Munich side before the world cup might have influenced his decision as well, they would do the same again after loosing one game.

But Löw was the real coach in respect to training and tactics, Klinsmann was more the guy to motivate the team, the media could concentrate on Klinsmann and due to his optimistic attitude people do like him.

With Löw as a coach I dont see german foottball stepping backwards. At least I do not hope so.
HelterSkelter
What sarabyrd is writting it seems like he's gonna go to the US, live with his family, analyse what happened, work on new ideas and methods on his own (a break from the pressure) while Löw is training the boys back here in Germany... to me, that sounds like he is more likely gonna be back in about a year or something...
