Hi all
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to the cheapest way to get from Munich to Frankfurt? I need to get to the UK by Thursday lunch and I'am trying to compair the cost of flying with Easyjet or Ryan air. Easyjet is around €250 return from Munich but Ryan air is only €54 return from Frankfurt. I need to see if a trip to Frankfurt will save me some cash. Is it worth the trip. Any ideas

Bear in mind that Ryanair fly out of Frankfurt Hahn - not Frankfurt. This is 2 hours bus journey (they say 90 mins but I've done it and its more like 2 hours) from Frankfurt - and you have to pay for this too - I don't know how much. And the train to Frankfurt will put you back about €100 or more for a return ticket.

I've done Dublin to Frankfurt then train to Munich. Never again - takes longer and costs pretty much the same.

Bayern Ticket for € 15 will get you to the far eastern suburbs of Frankfurt and then it's only a few Euros into town. BUT, as Meckle said, Hahn airport is WAY out of town on the OTHER side and the Bayern Ticket means slower trains.

If you really want to fly with Easyshit then it might be the time to invest in a BahnCard, €200 for a year's 50% discount: www.bahn.de

€250 ain't that bad for a last minute flight MUC-LON tbh. dry.gif

have you tried looking at flight from Salzburg with Ryanair? Its easier to get to than Hahn

Don't know if this is still the case, but British Airways WERE doing some great deals, Munich to London direct ! Have you checked the British Airways web site ?

Also, Flybe.com fly from Salzburg and can get you to other parts of the UK. Birmingham, Glasgow, Southampton? Good luck.

Try Mitfahrzentrale. You can drive with someone who is driving to frankfurt and you share the gas bill..

Mitfahrerzentrale has taken me to and from Frankfurt a few times now. €20 each time. Never any problems either. Certainly cheaper than the €69 train!

Cheapest? Walking.

there is a munich-frankfurt sprinter which stops only in pasing and mannheim. takes a bit more than 3 hours to frankfurt main station, but costs €79 one-way without discount!

Yeah, try Ryan Air from Salzburg, it's only 15 Euros to get to or so by train, takes about 2 hours. The trains don't run v early or late though, check out www.DB.de

Air Berlin from Nürnberg to London. Nuremberg is pretty quick and easy to get to with the aforementioned Bayern Single ticket (15 Euros).

Don't forget the costs and time at the other end, Stanstead to London, etc !!

DB is having a summer offer for any trains(ICE/IC/EC included) to anywhere in Germany for only 29 eur.
Für 29 EUR quer durch Deutschland

isn't that offer limited to only July and August?

2 options right now:

1) I just booked Lufthansa direct from their site, € 97 to Heathrow from Munich

2) www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de is soooper, doesn't cost anything to register and there are loadsof people driving around who could take you.

But I agree with the guys who say, for the extra cash and time and hassle, Hahn isn't worth it, it's better to pay more and fly from here, Nürnberg or Salzburg.

Or you could hire a car one-way, Europcar rent by the hour...

Hi, I have an idea about what DB offers are, and I'm wondering if I can find something better than that.
I've searched for bus conections between Munich and Frankfurt but I've had no luck. I can not believe that there is no direct bus connection between these 2 cities.

The Germans don't really "do" buses. If the train is too expensive (note the Schönes Wochenende option, or just book early enough to get the €29 fare), then the standard response to the hundreds of "how do I get from A to B as cheaply as possible" questions is Mitfahrgelegenheit.

See also Cheapest way to travel from Frankfurt to Munich. The OP there never bothered to read the responses, but maybe it will be of use to you instead.

I think the 29Euro fare is the cheapest option I have, because I will travel during the week and can't use the Schones Wochenende ticket.
Arriving before 8 AM in Frankfurt stops me from using "Laender" tickets which would have been a cheap option as I will not travel alone and I will return the same day.

Edit: It looks like the DB site is down now for some reason. Hope in the morning it will work and I will be able to still get the 29Euro fare... unsure.gif

It's car pooling and definitely the cheapest and fastest way. Though you'll need to know some German to use the site and arrange a ride. I've been a driver and a rider and think the program is fabulous. Hope this helps
