Meetup to play bridge

Hey does anyone like to play bridge? Not many germans play
american standard bidding conventions

if you teach how to play i do. I play rook which is very similar but would like to play bridge too.

I play bridge too, I even taught a group of Germans how to play (but that was back in Bielefeld.)

There is a bridge club just around the corner at Goetheplatz, if it helps ...

Well i'll be happy to teach someone what I know about bridge.
However, learning bridge can be very complicated at first.
But afterward it can be a lot of fun--especially with fun people.

Sounds like something for Games Night. I know a bit about playing, but never really took it up.

You should try the club in Goetheplatz, see http://www.acol-bridgeclub.de. It is where I am going and is decent and the people are nice. Not many SAYC players, but you should give it a try. I do play SAYC, going into this club once per week (Tuesday is the best tournament of the week), don't have a regular bridge-partner, but I still find someone to play with overthere every single time. I thought I'd revive this topic!
Having recently had my mother to stay, I was inspired to revisit my Bridge days of about 10 years ago. As an ex-pat in Africa at the time we used to play for long, very sociable sessions accompanied by gallons of gin. As a result I probably can't remember too many of the conventions...especially when it starts getting to bidding to find out how many aces your partner has etc...but basic ACOL should still be there in the recesses of my brain.

I'd really like to start playing again, but I've looked at the club website and the whole idea of joining a club puts me off... I would be more interested in the occasional relaxed game perhaps in conjunction with a glass of wine...

Anyone interested?

Just saw this as I was looking through random topics. I'm interested, and only know basic conventions (5 card majors, blackwood, stayman), but I play ok. Looking for recreational level bridge playing, probably cannot commit to a regular event.

We used to host an international bridge session each week (NW of Hamburg) - but since pretty well all returned to their various homes it ceased a few years ago.
It was rather interesting to have a Russian partnering an American playing against two "red" Chinese...

I'm interested too. I used to play club precision, but that was years ago. Suffering from lack of partners since I moved to Germany.

What are "American standard" conventions *ROFL*? Who plays 100% "Standard American"?
There is a German system (ForumD(+)) . This is based on 5-card majors. There are some differences, but it is all a question of agreement. An overcall of 2NT(uNT) has a different meaning for many here. However, once you agree on what it means for you, you are flying.

Anyway, I saw this string, and just wanted to ask if there is anyone in the Karlsruhe area who plays. This is our bridge club
