Wow. This being the sequel to the "The Curse of the Black Pearl" seems to have done pretty good!!

QUOTE
...pulverized several records in its first three days in theaters over the weekend, becoming the most successful movie opening in Hollywood history.
I loved the first one and now it seems that the Pirates of the Caribbean will be turning into a trilogy...Hmmm...

QUOTE
Dead Man's Chest" is not just a movie. It's a glistening, sushi-grade chunk of franchise entertainment, which means that maximal enjoyment of it comes with certain obligations. It is the second episode in what will be at least a trilogy...

QUOTE
The question is: Is it worth it? By a rational calculation of time and money, the answer is probably no. But hey, this isn't about that, right? It's about fun. You're there to have fun. Fun for the family. Fun for the kids. Fun for everyone. So shut up and have fun. And you probably will, even if it's hard to shake the feeling that you've been bullied into it. — A. O. Scott , The New York Times

No Bottle of Rum, but...

Well, it's hard to say. Will have to see it for myself. I just hope this Pirates 2 lives up to the first one(I thought was great!) or "works with" it to create a good trilogy if that is what they are aiming for.

Johnny Vaughan Review
Well he seemed to like it?*

*Though he also gave a good review for Deuce Bigalow:European Gigalo, which was absolute shit. Could the good review been in return for a part in the film? dry.gif

There's a preview on the 26th, but as its out now, I am betting that it could well be this or next weeks 'Sneak Preview' at the cinema.
planetmoni
considering we have so many johnny depp fans on this forum, it is time to start a thread on tomorrow's opening of the pirates 2. some friends and i will be watching it tomorrow night and i am looking forward to seeing it. word is that it is a good sequel and even better as the 1st, i am however trying to make up my own mind as most sequels are not as good as one hopes. the trailers look like fun and johnny depp will be the eye-candy throught the film smile.gif

here are some pics:

I saw this not long ago, was brilliant! The only thing I can complain about is that I have to wait for the next part now, was well annoying the way it ended. Again great film will make you laugh, and in parts jump a mile.

Luckily one of the local cinemas in Aachen is also going to show it in the original version... Yipee.. Know where I'll be thursday night
Sin

Stroke me!!! Looks a bit like don riina.
planetmoni
i imagine, grilled over a BBQ with nice garlic sauce or maybe chilli sauce, he could be very tasty
Sin
Nah! I reckon he'd be a chewy as fried Wrigleys gum marinaded in boot polish and left out to bake in the sun.
Uncle Nick

My wife and kids went to see the film this afternoon in a cool cinema whilst I sweated it out in home-office.

The funny thing is they havnt said a thing about the film this evening... huh.gif
Kay
Maybe they are still thawing... biggrin.gif

Just back from seeing it. I thought it was enjoyable. Quite funny in parts.
bern
I saw this a few days ago... I really liked it. A bit darker than the first, maybe not as funny, but still very enjoyable. I did laugh out loud during a few parts. Definately worth seeing if you liked the first but as with most sequesls, it's not as good as the original but certainly a fun film nonetheless.
Hammonia
Hmmm - am I the only one who didn't like it? unsure.gif
Saw it in England last weekend and thought it was nowhere NEAR the first part, which was hilarious.

It had quite a few funny bits, and the costumes and effects were good, but basically I found it just boooring.
Topsy
I saw it last night and really liked it.
I thought the start was a bit slow, and some of the attempted jokes at the beginning fell a bit flat. But once it got going it was great fun. Can't wait for the next one.
katz
Anything with Jonny Depp is worth seeing he is so good to look at, he was just great in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Topsy
agree katz - even the semi-boring bits at the beginning were eminently watchable for that very reason biggrin.gif
planetmoni
saw it last night.
johnny depp was GREAT...
i liked it a lot. 2 reasons why i didn't like it very much: there was action all the time and the camera had only a few moments were it was steady and calm. in the first movie the camera was a bit slower. and i didn't like the sea creatures and sea-looking sailors...

and for those who haven't seen it: don't expect an end... Pirates 2+3 are one main story line...

Two great minds think alike!

fucking astounding film saw it on wednesday showing and gonna go see it again this weekend,

only problem was possible it was a little too long at 2 1/2 hours but it is only a minor criticism as it was so fastly paced there was always something happening

depps again at his best and this time bloom and knightley wernt just the pretty wooden dolls from the first film

great film loved the slapstick comedy and the set design was amazing. a true peice of pirate escapism, ending was annoying as you have to wait till next may/june for the next installment but a fking great movie overall

bring on miami vice now.
RB-Tee
And just a little something from Pirates II..Have not seen it YET, but hopefully REAL soon! biggrin.gif

Nope, you weren't the only one. Not that I was expecting much, but I was willing to give it a go. I found myself sighing with boredom at several points. And although I can suspend my disbelief enough to accept the premise of the story, some of the stunts that were done were just too silly or went on for too long to keep it up. Agreed about the costumes and effects for the most part.

Best line was from my husband. At the end of the film, when they are paddling up the river at night and he said "They are going to run into Marlon Brando soon".

In this country people clap if a trained pilot manages to land a plane, so I wouldn't use that sort of behaviour as a benchmark.
parnell
I usually clap if I manage to put on my pants without havin to zip up my ass.

and he probably understood the vodoo lady as well as kurtz? i had to concentrate there and put on my creole-jamaican ears on "high".

i had a good time in the film. thought davey jones' crew was cool. i had fun, but at mathaeser, they charged 9,50 EUR for a tix. what is the world coming to? ohmy.gif

not true, londoners clap in the cinema too and they are not necessarily clapping when the plane lands
Yeti
If somebody was landing a plane in a cinema clapping would be the last thing on my mind.

They do? I wouldn't mind betting those people you've seen clapping in London are tourists - let's be honest, 80% of London's population are tourists anyway.

Now, if somebody landed a cinema on a runway, that would be worth applauding!
Yeti
It would have to be a Multiplex though, any common or garden cinema pilot worth their salt could land a arthouse cinema on a runway.
UrbanAngel
I find that the Cinema audience claps at a lot of the films I've seen there - nothing special.
judders
I think the english audience is a harder cookie to crack, when watching a funny movie in England you rarely get more than a couple of giggles at parts when most Americans would be bent over their popcorn, hot dog, and nachos histerical. With this movie though the whole english audience was in stitches, I think it makes the movie more fun.

Crap! Boring as hell. I went in not expecting much and was still disappointed... mostly by Depp's performance (compared to his effort inthe first movie). They did the usual Hollywood thing of concentrating too much on special effects at the expense of everything else. The original was much better. On saying that there were a few moments that were very funny.

I really enjoyed it... but... the poor doggie ohmy.gif

well, the audience was clapping for the film: the story of the weeping camel at the curzon cinema, not sure that was a tourist crowd mellow.gif

Ay, so it was...
totally agree, boring as hell, while the special effects were quite interesting, (i enjoyed the fishhead people), the action sequences were so redundant, and, i can't believe i am about to say it, johnny depp's performance fell flat in this one for me... sad.gif (god, i feel like a traitor)
