Can anyone give me some advice on returning a CD ROM PC Game to the shop? Our computer does not have the spec required to play it so it is useless to us and cost €45.00!!! sad.gif

Unfortunately the wrapper has been taken off (cellophane cover) but is totally complete and only bought yesterday. Will they give us a refund or credit note? We still want a game to replace it and will buy it from the same shop but can they do this?

Doesn't help that my German is pretty poor!!!

Thanks in advance unsure.gif

They have no responsibility to take it back, but I'm sure they'll give you a credit note at least...

PC Games are notoriously hard to get refunds on, for obvious reasons.

Most places in the UK won't accept them, I'm not sure about German policy.

Lesson learned: Always check the specs before you buy.

they normally won´t take any cds dvds or games back after they have been opened.
They will only take them back if they are defekt. (with good proof)

Lesson Learned: I didn't do the buying, it was a surprise gift!!! mad.gif I understand UK doesn't do it but was keen to know what the score was here, could be a dead loss but worth a try to take it back,

thanks anyway

Obviously you just whack a dirty great scratch on the disk with a penknife. Next question?

(the CD itself and packaging is worth like 50p, the shop will get a refund, and the software company has made 1 less sale - but its not like destroying an actual product - it is the licence that has the value).

biggrin.gif @JEnglish,

good idea, problem being what if they say "Here you go little English man, here is areplaced one, no scratches!"?

i suggest walking in, saying "oi you, knobber... smell my game you basssssssssssssstard"

The peeps at the cashdesk in Karstadt are hardly gonna have any PC knowledge atall, or they would have better jobs. If they say packaging is bust, therfore no return (on the basis that you could have ripped the game) tell them that they can "check" it to verify that the disc was never used. TEll them that PC's leave a kind of "fingerprint" on a disc if its been read. Bullshit works amazingly well.

@Leebo84,

good to see that good old English University education isn't wasted.!!!

Shakka lakka bum bum!!!

well being a poor student i do know many various ways to con people out of money!!! wish i could con some more out of EADS but they won't have none of it...
Memo
Here's what... Scratch the CD like JE suggested, and if they accept to refund, no problem. If they replace it, no problem, just DON'T OPEN THE WRAPPER, and go there two, three days later and return it.

Am I just too naive?

So much dishonesty! If it really was a gift you won't be out of pocket if you can't return it so why is it so important that you'd even consider trying to con the shop when you don't speak German. sounds like a recipe for humiliation to me. My german was pretty bad when I returned a faulty dvd to Karstadt and it was pretty difficult even just to get a replacement for a genuinely faulty disc. If it were me I'd forget it and tactfully let the gift buyer know the right kind of game to buy next time.

a. the gift was from jimi's wife (my mum) so the cash came from the same bank account

b. it was hardly cheap at €45

c. lighten up

That's quite a personal slur JMA15, please do not ever question my integrity again. If you think I would lie on a forum and ask for advice you must be mad. Why am I "trying to con the shop"? seems to me like someone is stirring for trouble here, I asked a genuine question and got some genuine replies and I thank those contributors, as for you, you can keep your "advice" thank you very much.

Be careful not to even hint at anything dishonhest from now on because people will laugh their tits off at you!!! ph34r.gif

So you ask a bunch of strangers for advice, and when you don't like one of the responses you turn around and bite their head off?

If you want to know whether Karstadt will give you a refund, here's an idea -- go to the store and ask them. If you started the thread to try and find a trick that would increase your chances of getting a refund, then perhaps "conning the shop" is a fairly accurate description. Even if you didn't, most of the replies fall into that category anyway.

Just sell it on Amazon like everyone else.
JMA15
Hilarious overreaction. So get mad with the ones suggesting the dishonesty, not me. I stand by what I said. You want to know if Karstadt will take it back, ask them and you'll get a yes or a no. If you put a question like that on a forum like this you're inviting all sorts of answers - learn to deal with them.

Well did it work? Did you get your Money back?
