Moving to Munich in about 3 weeks. Well, technically, we'll be living in Starnberg, closer to where my wife will be teaching. Starting to worry about going stir crazy in Starnberg. What kind of town is it? Is there much to do there? How easy is it to take public transport to and from Munich?

Lots of stuff to do in Starnburg if you like sports and such. Once you get bored of Starnburg, Downtown Munich is only a 40 min ride on the Sbahn.

You could contact these people: Starnberg - Does anyone else live there?

I once heard that starnberg is the residence for extremely rich people such as CEO's and high level managers, :-)

I use to work there. It is a really nice town. And yes, it is a bit of a "richie-rich" town.
There was (I presume still is) a little "Australian Out Back" Pub(and there is a Pub'ish thing down by the lake that has a out-door dance floor. And loads of other little Pubs).
Starnberg has two train stations. One that drops you off at the top of town and the other at the bottom by the lake (see). The MIS school is VERY close and the town has two very nice Ice-cream shops too! tongue.gif

Starnberg is nice, its very green, the lake is beautiful and great to sit at and look at the alps and good to swim in. It's not as snobby as people say it is, and its not far to Munich.

Hi there,

I work at MIS and lived in Starnberg for two years. It's difficult to meet anyone in Starnberg other than your coworkers. I moved into Munich about a month ago, which, so far, has been a great move. There's just a lot going on. As for the commute, well, it pretty much stinks, but I tell you, it's better riding the sbahn in the morning when it's clean than stressing about catching the last one to Starnberg and night and trying to nap amongst the drunks.

If you'd like more info, you can send a PM, I'd be happy to help.

fantanstic area to live, but expensive because it is very wealth area. The klinic/hospital is the best in munich. I had a back operation there and it was like staying at a 5 star hotel.

Lots of things to do on the lake, but definetly not cheap!

good luck.
