Holla Back has now been launched in Europe. The "germany.hollaback.eu" website is for naming and shaming of flashers, gropers and harassers on public transport and in the street. Orginally based in New York, Holla Back NYC, the site has now come to Germany.

Mission statement:

QUOTE
Holla Back NYC empowers New Yorkers to Holla Back at street harassers. Whether you're commuting, lunching, partying, dancing, walking, chilling, drinking, or sunning, you have the right to feel safe, confident, and sexy, without being the object of some turd's fantasy. So stop walkin' on and Holla Back: Send us pics of street harassers!

What the legal standpoint on this is, is another issue entirely.

See the Guardian article: Don't get groped - get even

It's not just anti-flashing, it's anti general harrasment. No need to be so flashist.

Interesting experience on Sunday while cycling along the Ammersee. Tearing along a trail I turned a curve only to confronted by a cooked lobster red, stark naked, male caucasian wielding an anglegrinder.

I know personal jewelery and loose clothing should be removed or secured before using powertools but this would appear to be going too far. Or is it perhaps a symptom of a general nakedness/DIY movement ? Should we be prepared for the appearance of interest groups such as the Bavarian Bareassed Arc Welders Association ?
Katrina
I knew that story would have to be posted.
You missed out the presence of clothed bystanders, possibly family, chatting to the nekkid grinder.
Think I'm going to retain your band sander for your own health and safety... you being an Ammersee local and all.
Adi
It will be interesting to see how this one develops. People that post images of others on such a website are probably leaving themselves wide open to being sued for defamation/libel.
Wee Mun
Hmmmm, this is ideal for getting back at people who have annoyed you. My mate jimmy pissed me off at the weekend, let's post a pic of him and out him as a groper!!

The German "Recht auf eigenes Bild" laws might be relevant.

It's been discussed on TT before, but in a slighly different context:

The NYC site had only a few entries and only a few of the guys were clearly visible.

I guess it's a good idea, but it does not seem to get that much use.
Adi
Seems like a dumb idea to me. Not all, but most (IMO) are lame, lame, lame stories. Did you read " Bigots at NYC Pride"? What medication is she taking? She'd qualify for entry to the Big Brother House.

my first thought was: hey, that's cool.

but then again...
- if someone grabs you in the U-Bahn, why not tell them off there and then?
- if your boss gives you trouble, it might not be a good idea to publish his pic as he'd know where it's coming from
- some idiots might actually be proud to have their pic published as they see no shame in what they've done or said and would probably show it to their friends to brag about it

I have had my backside groped on several occasions (during my younger days)by the ladies. To be honest it did not bother me in the least bit (and a couple of them did get lucky!!) biggrin.gif

I only had my bum pinched in Birmingham. And I was too scared to turn around to see who was doin it! blink.gif

Why dont they have a sex offenders register in Germany rather??? Think that would be more useful!
gideon
oh this is not a good idea considereing the german laws relevant to the unallowed publishing of private pictures, and couple that too the inability to verify the claims made and i can see a fair few euros flowing into lawyers pockets. if a girl has time to take a picture she has time to shout and complain and use mace, which is much more effective... and considering alot of women are over panicy i can see alot of innocent people being hurt here.

Yep. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I disagree with this type of vigilante justice, there's way too much room for abuse.

Sir, drop the pink handy. That's it, just put it down...

I totally agree with you. It's like false rape allegations. How many people would have their lifes ruined by this site, because some nutter wants to get back at someone?
