The supermarket Lidl is about to offer DSL based Internet services at knock down prices. €19.99 for connection and access for first 3 months. Thereafter The DSL line costs €16.99, €19.99, €24.99 or €29.99 for 1,2,6 or 16Mbit service) same as Telekom, and €0.49/month for unlimited surfing for city dwellers, €2.49 for those outside the city. No connection charge for 2Mbit or higher. Their assumption is you already have a phone line at least.

A key point to this offer is that there is no minimum contract after the 3-month trial. Cancellation at anytime with 6 workdays notice.

See www.lidl-dsl.de or your local Lidl store from July 13.

This doesn't sound like a bad deal, but it seems that T-Com are the ones behind it, and I've heard some bad things about them..

Still doesn't beat this in price. Good, as YSL points out, you aren't locked into a year long contract with Lidl's offer.

Of course it beats the (GMX) price. Take GMX @16Mbit for 24 months and it will cost you 24 x €29.99 for the DSL line and nothing for the flatrate access - total cost = €719.16
Take Lidl for 24 months any you will pay €19.99 for both services for 3 months, then (21x€29.99) for the line plus (21x€2.49) for flatrate access. Total cost = €702.07 - you save €17.09. If you live in the city the savings are even more (€59.09). I agree that with lower line speeds the calculation is tighter, but there are no long term commitments and you have a direct contact to the Telekom customer service if your line fails (with GMX you need to contact themn first, and they contact Telekom)

That's "YL6" by the way

This is one thread on the matter, but I'm sure I've read a few others.

No mention there of Telekom being a "bad deal". On the contrary, most comments are neutral or better.

Can anyone comment on this service from Lidl? Seems good on paper 'cept for the fact that you need to pay for the hardware (that's if you don't already have it).
YorkshireLad6
What is there to comment about? It does what it says on the packet, the the advantage of not being locked in for long term.
