Jogger attacked in Feldmoching

while running!

A colleague of mine, who reads the Suddeutstche Zeitung daily, gave me a newspaper clipping saying that a woman was attacked by a knife wielding man(short, about 5'6", dirty blond hair, a smoker) in the 'forest' west of the Ruderregattta. It said he stopped her to ask her directions and then took her to either her car or his car...blah, blah, blah. Serious business. He thought I would be interested because he knows I bike/run out there often - it is not the woods, it's dirt roads crisscrossing the fields - a bit isolated but you always see lots of people out there.

Anyway, my point is - just because we're in Munich, Germany, which is, I believe, much safer than say Boston or NYC, you should always be away out there. I don't read the newspaper much so I don't know if they print this sort of thing very often.
Everyone should be as cautious here as they are in their own country(or more because you are an 'auslander').

o yea i saw that in the paper too... scary. something similar happened in vienna not too long ago which also scared me (i live there)..someone was jogging along prate allee (a long strip for jogging, biking, etc.) and was raped... but the scary thing is that it happened during the middle of the day so there were obviously plenty of ppl around cuz its always really busy when the weather is nice.
so yea, no matter how safe u think a city is anything can happen.

If you let your guard down 100% you open yourself up to predators..unless where you live is paradise...

Lesson: don't let your guard down 100%

Just another reason for me never to go jogging, or running or do any physical exercise at all.

Still, i feel safer walking about munich than i do in belfast.

For the gals, it is always advisable to bring pepper spray and stuffs. There's really no place in this world which is 100% safe.
Jeff
speaking of pepperspray, does someone know where to get one??

Just feel like adding this...

My Malaysian buddy was trying to convince his German sis & mother in law for a two weeks vacation in South East Asia. He thought that perhaps it would be an eye opening experience for them since they have never been there...

So the sister in law commented that hmmm Asia is not safe...plenty of robbers...Mum it is alright ...Since we have been to Chinatown SF ... It is the same ...we have seen the CHINESE there...

Some locals here are really funny... they believe that Germany is much safer than Anywhere else.

Pepper spray can be bought in most outdoors shops and hardware stores around town. I don't know what the legality of carrying it is though, so be careful, especially crossing any borders.

There's a great little shop just on Karlsplatz where you can buy pretty much any offensive weapon going from knives & swords to automatic handguns and the like. I'm sure they can sort you out with something.
