Mark your calendars for Sunday 2nd July 2006 - the second annual Munich "4th of July / US Independence Day" party.

This year the party takes place at the Waldwirschaft beer garden (also known as WaWi) from 2pm to 6pm.

The WaWi will provide food and drinks. There will be a live jazz band as well as a mini-golf tournament.

The event is being organised by two groups: the Democrats Abroad and the American German Business Club.

Other groups may also join and all friends and family are invited.

WaWi is a great spot.

Check out the car park on your way in. Always plenty of serious hardware.

How much does it cost this year? looks like it was 12 euros last year?
Traveler
What exactly do you get for the 12€ ?

It costs nothing to attend. You buy your own food and drink. There are "greens fees" if you want to take part in the mini-golf tournament. The AGBC are the big organizers this year and DA is participating.

From AGBC:
Come out and bring your friends and family to the beautiful beer garden lovingly referred to as the WaWi. We will be joining together with some other US-focused groups around Munich to celebrate July 4th in style - with a jazz band, delicious food and drinks, and the 2nd Annual President's Cup Championship Invitational, our now legendary Mini-Golf Tournament. "Green fees" will be assessed based on participants.

Please register using AGBC's registration website (sign in as a guest) by June 30 - http://www.jambit.com/agbc

I must admit, I'm confused. I was informed via newsletter that the Waldfest will be going on this Sunday (2 July) as well at the Waldwirtschaft and you have to register on that site to be let into the Biergarten.

Uh ooh, I am looking into that now. Thanks for the heads up.

Edit: They are assuring us of enough room, but please register via the AGBC link above.

Why do we have to sign up if we pay for our own food anyway? Can't we just show on the day if we decide then to go?
Chicago
aw, come on. the CIA + NSA + FBI + White House are already listing to your phone calls, monitoring your bank transactions, and watching your web activity. signing up for a picnic, and a patriotic one at that, won't decrease your privacy.

note: and that is the kind of political talk I hope will not be going on at the picnic

so will there be the German Brass Band as well as the live jazz band? At opposite ends of the garden so they don't conflict or will they alternate? The Waldfest is supposed to have Trachtenvereine and dancers too...

The sign up is to assure you of entry. Seems the Waldfest got redated to the day of the 4th of July event. I would think that the jazz is out or limited and the Waldfest stuff will overtake the normal entertainment.
If you just show up, then be ready to talk your way in. Drop the name of AGBC and DA Munich a lot.
I would highly recommend signing up via the Waldfest page since the AGBC reservation page is now closed.
Contact me for more info if you are coming and want to make sure you get in.

I don't check one day, and now I can't register? my god...

I'll try Walfest...whatever that is...sounds like it'll ruin a 4th of July event...*sniffle*

...and does that mean I have to wear my Lederhosen for a 4th of July celebration? this'll be interesting

Just check in at the AGBC/DA table upon arrival. See you there tomorrow.

We are heading out shortly for the 4th fun.
