Taking time off work for construction to apartment

Recevied a letter from the company that owns our apartment block stating that they will be replacing all the kitchen windows, adding new insulation and new balconies. For some reason my apt is not getting a balcony whereas all the others on the row are, not that I really care. My concern is that they want someone to be present while the construction is taking place which would mean I would have to take a day off work.

What are the rules regarding this? I didn't request this work, don't see any reason for it and I definetly don't want to be taking a day off just so I can watch this happen.

ask your personnel department what the company rules are for "Sonderurlaub". You *might* be able to take a day off for this.
