1st Annual Jehovah's Witness & Internet Polemicist Society Meetup

Where: See map
When: As soon as possible
Why: To share tips on spreading the message. Any message, it doesn't matter really. Just spread it over and over and over again, like the little bunny you are.

Brothers, Sisters. Do you have an opinion? A thought? A view which should must be shared with the world repeatedly, ad naseum? Share your tribulations with brethren who can understand, under this year's opening banner: The Audacity of Superciliousness.

Jehovah's Witnesses: Tired of being derided for trying to spread your good message to the heathens? Ready to share the burden of vituperation with a like-minded group of evangalists? Come press the flesh with your fellows in methodology, if not orthodoxy.

Internet Polemicists: Need new tips on how to repeat your message? Overcome the human obstacles of disinterest, boredom, anger and reason with tips from the pros. Learn new ways to express any view you choose to champion. World politics, local politics, national politics, war, sports - it's not the message that matters - but the delivery! Refresh your indomitable spirit to never let an opportunity pass without comment.

Food, drinks and hospital facilities will be provided. Successful sterilization certificates will be distributed at the conclusion of the Meetup.

I hear the Red Cross will also be there to accept blood donations

In my opinion this thread should be removed !

Just think it's a little bit bad taste !

why do you think it's wrong?

I went with my gut reaction on this, and it wasn't a good reaction.
Admittedly, randy doesn’t really explain why he wants Jehovah's Witness & Internet Polemicist to meet there.
However, without an explanation I am just guessing that he doesn’t like these people and is implying that he would like to see them treated in a similar manner to the way the Nazis treated the jews … I could be wrong, but that is how I have read between the lines… Why else would he try to make a joke about meeting at Dachau, there are plenty of other places he could have chosen for the meet !
Mike Fish
I'm not going to mention pink stars.
Crawlie
Well mothbola. He was asking for other suggestions for the venue to be fair
UpQuark
Call me what hypersensitive if you will, but I don't find attempted genocide all that funny. Should we suggest Rwanda as an alternate venue? Cambodia circa 1975?
Iceberg Slim
Khmer, I'll show you funny, Hypersensitive. If attempted genocide isn't funny, what about merely planned genocide - or even spectacularly successful genocide?
mere
or if you'd like just go to Darfur

Jehovah's Witnesses killed in concentration camps

http://www.ccg.org/_domain/holocaustrevealed.org/badges.htm

Helene Gotthold, a Jehovah's Witness, was beheaded for her religious beliefs on December 8, 1944, in Berlin. She is pictured with her children. Germany, June 25, 1936. Thousands of other Jehovah's Witnesses were killed in concentration camps. Raped, tortured, gassed...

Yes, funny joke. I am sure that her relatives in Munich would find this thread hilarious.
VersatileAustralian
Would this thread be deleted if it was about Africans, Jews etc..?
randy
VA: It is satire, and not meant to be taken literally. Furthermore it wasn't a joke against Jehovah's Witnesses, of whom I'm sure many are swell folk indeed. The butt of the joke was intended to be on the armchair politicians who frequently post on this forum.

The comedic devices I attempted to use were:
  • Congruity - to establish a connection between the (widely held view of) pestering by Jehovah's Witness spreading their message, and that of our resident watchdogs' daily postings.
  • Sarcasm
  • Hyperbole - of which the map was intended to be a visual representation of such an exaggeration device.
To sum, the JW's were intended to be the "straight man" - not the focus of attention.

The war sucked. Nazism sucked. We're totally agreed on that.

I always thought randy was one of the 'nicer' posters dry.gif

Sorry, I'm working under our Department motto: Ready to disappoint!®

I have no idea what an internet polemicist is. sad.gif

As we all know, he who uses the biggest words wins.

EDIT: I've now looked it up and am proud to adopt my new title of internet polemicist. I shall wear it proudly. biggrin.gif
randy
ER: That would be the Germans then - but they lost wink.gif

A polemicist is simply one who practices polemics, i.e. deliberately creating controversy, shit-stirring, etc. It was the best word that fit, I thought. :\

or she smile.gif (or maybe only the guys win in this sexist world)
Eleanor Rigby
you internet polemicist!
Mini-pup
weird. I just had 2 (actual) Jehovah's Witnesses show up at my door yesterday (it's a 5th floor walk up mind). I felt bad saying no and shutting the door in their faces right away. Sort of. Well, not really. I mean, who wants to hear that crap after a long shitty day. smile.gif
Uncle Nick
@Mini-pup: you could always shock them by asking if they sell black candles, or as my mum did once when they called on a sunday morning she said to them "My only relegion is my bed!"
sarabyrd
I always let them have their say in their heavily accented German and then tell them in English to go somewhere else. I'm tempted to tell them to go away and play, pimply youths that they are.
Somehow I never get German JWs trying to convert me.
VersatileAustralian
That is probably the Mormons, not JWs. The Mormons send their youths (mostly boys) around the world to do missionary work. The JWs in Germany are old people standing on the street corners holding their magazines up.
sarabyrd
Very possible. I don't listen to them.
