Hello Everybody,

My name is Liz I am 30 and German citizen. I have lived along with my husband oversease for many years now in Asia. I have two children both aged 15 and we are now moving to Dortmund do to my husbands work. I have been looking for an English speaking school for my two children for very long now and haven't found anything around Dortmund yet. I would dearly appreciate any help towards English Schools near by or even in Dortmund. Thank you very much!

Hi Lizet,

there is also an English school in Duisburg (St. George's School), which is closer to Dortmund than any of those listed at agis-schools.org, but still not really near Dortmund.

If you cannot find an English speaking school that is enough, you could consider sending your children to a German school with a bilingual branch. While most lessons are in German, some subjects (usually History, Geography and Politics, ocassionally Science) are taught in English, so that might be a compromise. There are two of those in Dortmund (http://www.leibniz-gym.de/ and http://www.heig-do.de/), but I do not know any specifics about either of them.

Good luck,

Jan

My wife and I are considering an employment opportunity that would require moving our family (3 year old and 9 year old children) later this year from the US to east of Dortmund for 2-3 years.

We just found this site today, and appreciate the information.

We're specifically searching for an English language school in the Dortmund area.

One post mentioned the possibility of a branch of the St. Georges British School opening later this year in Dortmund. We have not yet been able to confirm this.

We would appreciate any additional comments regarding this or other English speaking school possibilities in the Dortmund area.

Thank you for any assistance.

We are thinking of moving to Dortmund Germany for the 4 years my twin boys are in high school - they are now in 8th grade. I have been looking for schools in Dortmund that I could enroll my boys in. I can see many international schools but none in the Dortmund local area. I am hoping that someone on this forum, living in Dortmund can help me with some names of schools in the area.

welcome!

I would recommend moving to Dusseldorf and placing the twins in the school there if your finances allow.

The school in on the northern side of the city and the distance between Dusseldorf and Dortmund is comutable (not short, but not long either in the scheme of things).

If your twins were younger, I would've suggested integration but at their age, their are more or less locked into finishing school in English (in my humble opinion, and making the assumption that they do not already speak a second language).

Good luck

Based on advise here and other forums, I have checked out Düsseldorf and it does look like a great option. However, before I give up on living in Dortmund, is there anyone out there who has moved to Dortmund and has found an English speaking high school for their kids?

I am employed at an international school in NRW and I haven't heard of any int'l school in Dortmund. Bochum and Essen also come up blank. As far as I know the nearest ones are St. George's (Duisburg-Wedau), International School Heiligenhaus in Heiligenhaus near Velbert, and the International School of Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf-Kaiserswerth. Farther than that there is one in Neuss and another one in Köln. Google for more info.
