Munich's best waitress

After reading the thread about service here I started thinking who I considered the best waitresses around to be. So here's who I came up with.

Susi ... Günther Murphys (Brazilian)
Anne ... Kilian's (Irish)
Lan ... Cafe Blue (Australian)

Anyone else have any suggestions for the "Munich's Best Waitress" award?
AquaticMeringue
Best as in...? Pure service? Cuteness? Friendliness? Ability to give a good head (on the beer, of course)?

I know we've got at least one waitress posting on these forums, so I'm going to be careful what I say.
Keydeck
Best as in quality of service and level of friendliness.

A cutie in Wassermann Neuhausen ... No idea what her name is (German)

Im an adult, I can take it. If you know me you'll know that Id love to know what everyone thinks about waitresses in Munich, good and bad as long as its honest.

I think Manu (from Ned Kellys) also deserves a mention. If for no other reason than the fact that she's a friendly German waitress (even though she speaks with an Aussie accent).

Generally, I find the service in Munich to be really poor.

I find myself having to go to the bar a lot, despite (allegedly) having table service, because the waitress doesn't come around often enough. This situation is unfortunately not limited to German bars. I find it happens too often at Kelly's/kilians. It's probably the fault of management, though, who haven't employed enough waitresses at busy times. A situation I can't understand, because surely people will drink more if they get more service.

Foreign waitresses and bartenders tend to be much friendlier than their German counterparts.

Is that the cute oriental-looking one? If so, then yeah, I like her. I was in Neds one time and French Bloke decided to order an Apfelschorle. I kept saying "A what? Are you ill?" - and Manu said "I'm sorry, we don't serve that here" ;) Mind you, that barmaid who was serving us in Neds on Friday night is pretty nice as well - she jokes around with the customers as well.

There's also that attractive German Barmaid in Cargo, who's friendly, funny, and speaks (at least) four languages.

There was also Jake's favourite barmaid, the American one who used to work on O'Reilly's, and who would always ask about him whenever we went to the quiz. She would also sit down and chat with us, and sometimes help us with the answers!

I almost never ask barmaids their names, though - I only know Bex's because I was with a couple of friends, and one of them asked her.

On the less positive side, I remember once going to a restaurant in Sendlinger Tor with a couple of friends and being served by a giant of a Bavarian waitress. When we asked for the menu (in German) the waitress roared "ENGLISCH ODER DEUTSCH?". We asked for German, and she responded with a boisterous "GUT!". She then returned with three menus clutched in her meaty fists and slamed them onto our table, before striding to the next table and eloquently asking the customers seated there if they were ready to order, by glaring at them and grunting "UND??".

Yeah, Manu is the cute oriental looking one. She's half German, half from somewhere in Asia, but despite having lived here her whole life, she's refreshingly un-German.

The one who served us on Friday was Kelli. She's Australian.

I think the worst service I've experienced is at a German place right near where I live. I eat there occasionally, and you can be lucky and get one of the better waiters/waitressess. If you get the bad one, though, you need to add about an hour onto your meal time there. Once, she disappeared for a full 45 minutes. I'd already ordered food, and had finished my beer ages ago and ended up actually getting up to look for her. She's also completely unfriendly - and always very slow, even when it's really quiet. If you get another waiter/ess, you get your meal in half the time.

I also got pretty bad service in that new American Diner that's replaced Luigi Malones (the one beside the Asado Steak house). I went there in December, ordered my meal, and it turned up okay. But when I wanted to pay I just couldn't get the waitresses attention, despite waving at her repeatedly when she walked past. Then she vanished for ages, so I decided to have a look around and see what had happened - she was sitting around the corner having a smoke. Suffice to say she didn't get a tip (and that is rare for me).

But generally it's not so much the service that bothers me as the attitude. There was a waitress in O'Reilly's who would occasionally forget drinks, but she always apologised for it and was really friendly - and so I'd still give her a decent tip. But when I encounter the stereotypical "coldly efficient" German service, I'm unlikely to give so much of a tip (although equally I find the insincere "best buddy" stereotypical American-style service just as off-putting).

I think the attitude of most waitresses (or waiters, for that matter) does improve a lot as they see you more often, though. I tend to get the best service at the places I frequent the most often. I took some friends to my local curry house last week, and the waiter must have asked us at least three times how the meal was (then he gave us a free round of drinks, and toasted my Birthday!). I'd be damn lucky to get that sort of service in the UK, let alone in Germany!
Hazza
Yeah, overall I get the best service at Murphy's, which I put down to being there a lot.

When you get to know the people working somewhere, their friendliness becomes more sincere. I've also had some good nights out with staff members of several of Munich's establishments

The best service I get in Mu is from the little old geyser who runs the little tobacco/newspaper/stuff shop at Leuchtenbergring station. He is great. Rarely says much, but I walk up every day after work, and he has a cold bottle of Franziskaner Weissbier ready and sat on the counter for me to pick up.
After a day in the office, I look forward to this!!

Just to pick up on one of Rugboys points, if I say nothin to him, then he says nothing to me. If I am chatty, then so is he. I agree with you Rug, you do get more polite responses if you are polite and talkative yourself. I am often happier with little to no crappy smalltalk though it must be said. Used to annoy the crap out of me in England when I would get a really chatty taxi driver, and I just wanted to be left the hell alone. I quite like it that here I can be chatty or totally silent, and get an equalish response.
RuggedyMan
Hey watchew doing in Leuchtenbergring? Thats my work stop too (well until I started cycling to work). Probably find out that you work in the same building as well. :-) Are you north or south from Leuchtenbergring?
don_riina
I work south, about 100m south in fact! Berg-am-Laim Str.
I cannot really use a bike to get here, 'cos I live in Garching-Hochbruck, a bit of a trek. Hence getting a beer from train-station bloke: no way I can wait until I get home...
RuggedyMan
You know that big dirty pink one just north of the Leuchtenbergring bridge? That's my baby. Proud of 'er oi am. Must be the ugliest building in Munich. But it's alright inside, a nice personality so to say.

Best service I've seen here is from Erolina, a really great German waitress at Pacha. Actually, the entire staff of Pacha is pretty friendly, and usually putting out free ramasoti (or however it's spelled) or espresso's after lunch. It's probably a lunch thing though, as there's many repeat customers who work in the MWM buildings eating there.

Erolina though, seems to get mucho attention for her really nice personality, fantastic looks, and quick service.
Hazza
Of course I also forgot to mention Marcella. She's the petite Colombian who works at Murphy's.
Keydeck
She is lovely Hazza. And has taken up Susi's habit of giving me my beers in frozen glasses. MMmmmm.

How does she see where she is going? :-)
Yeah right
There is a real saucy bint working in cafe viola who get my vote amongst other things - I wish.
don_riina
"Saucy bint" - love it. Man I miss proper english
NoGo
As opposed to english with the life sucked out of it?

I do a good impression of German with the life sucked out of it. That's if you think german had any life in it in the first place... it lost its thrill for me a while ago sad.gif
