Great! Lets head there next week. (I forgot about it actually!) Now I've added it to my Beergarden map of Munich and also the Beergarden Database on the Friday Beergarden Yahoo Group.

Boo-hoo...can't make it next week or the one after sad.gif ...and to think it's only a short stagger home...shame!

Was stuck in a train last week's Friday... look really forward to this week's meeting. Hope to make it around 7.00 and pledge to improve my German punctuality. See you
ian
Yes we will have to introduce a clock card system. Otherwise you'll never manage to drink 5 Mass Helles before they close if you get there late!
Please do not take this last sentence seriously!... No seriously, Don't!
TE610
But ian I thought you always have 7 being a lucky no.

Puny Earthlings

Due to overwhelming demand. (or just whelming demand) this week we're at the Schlösselgarten Beergarden on Friday 29th from 7pm.

A small yet pleasant beergarden just 14 minutes on MVV from Odeonsplatz.
Don't say we don't discover new beergardens as well as visit our favourites. (And so quick to get to!)
If its wet we'll be inside. I have booked the tables in the name of Norma Snockers!
What was I thinking?

Ian

Location on Google Map
U4 Arabellapark then 2 stops on the 89 Bus to Evastrasse (direction of Fritz-Meyer-Weg)
Opposite the bus stop is a small path. Go along it 200m til you come to the beergarden.
(Much easier to get to than the Chinese Tower or the Seehaus!)
ruapehu
such dedication, CitizenSmith, lurking on the thread in Istanbul!!!

Guess we'll have our little long overdue chat tomorrow then mad.gif

Ian, I think you'll find it's the 59 bus since the re-organisation of the busses. Real bummer I can't make it especially as it's only round the corner! Have fun!
Allershausen
I'm playing squash beforehand, so will arrive all hot and bothered, but most importantly, THIRSTY! biggrin.gif
Carm
cool, cheap beer and a crawl home!

Oops! Thanks. I copied it from their website. I should have referred to: www.mvv-muenchen.de
Where I would also have seen that it is now only a mere 15 minutes from Hauptbahnhof.

Carm
its also only about a 5-10 min walk from the Ubahn station too.
ian
Good. But it might take a little longer to get back to the U-Bahn after beer.
But in that state, who cares?
Carm
I know a short cut!
Alpine Dreamer
I look forward to joining you there!
TE610
Got a sugestion for next Friday, Pasinger island wine festival (sorry in german) before anyone says I know its not a beer garden. duh
But would be something differant 2 weeks in a row or is that pushing the boat out to far.

catering for the wine drinkers might get a more refined crowd (I know this is not really possible), or at least the ones that require more alcohol per unit volume. smile.gif

If not maybe ill start this as a separate thread for saturday the 6th.

I like the idea, lets talk about it over a beer tonight.
There is also a wine fest in Blutenburg, don't know exactly when, they usually have beer though; this is Bavaria, I can't imagine not being able to buy beer.
TE610
Blutenberg was last month
Owain Glyndwr
such a shame but I am still of the beer. so heading to other places to drink less carbohydrated beverages.
ian
Looking at the weather its going to be a nice evening tonight for the beergarden.
Allershausen
I hope the beer doesn't get too warm! smile.gif
ian
I'll do my best to drink quick enough! I'll be there from 18:30 ish by the way. (Or even earlier!) Anyone else for an afterwork tipple?
leisure suit larry
Jaja, the Schlösselgarten. I went to a high school (Gymnasium) which is close by. The Schlösselgarten was nice for an after-school refreshment.

Ah the memories! Probably I will cry into my beer about the loss of youth! I hope I can find the handy short-cut Carm mentioned, I used to know but it has been a long time, really.

See you later

ian
I think the gnomes in the garden below your window are hoping that as well! Tandoori acid melted his fishing rod!

Hi Beergardeners,

too bad I cannot make it tonight, would have loved to enjoy the food at Tollwood.

See you next time, have a nice evening!
ian
Its looking good at the moment. The rain radar says we'll probably sit outside.

ian
it turned out nice this evening. Blue sky and all that. We are still here having a great time right now. So join us still if you fancy a beer and a laugh. But you have some catching up to do!
ian
Happy faces at Tollwood.

Hi all,

Now that I have finally got a round tuit I’ll do the Friday Beergarden announcement, incidentally for those of you who don’t know what it is you can find them in most British Factories, where you can also find those elusive devices: “A long wait. There’s no point going to get one yourself, so send an apprentice. If your store man is any good the apprentice will probably come back after a while and tell you the store man said: “I can only find a short wait, will that do? it’s up to you how you proceed from there.

Anyway on with the details:

This week, due to indeterminate weather we have chosen an indoor/outdoor option.
Der Maxhof has a beergarden and plenty of room inside, I booked a table for 7pm in the name Evans
I imagine a few of us will turn up early.

The address:
Gasthaus Maxhof
Mühlthaler Str. 91
81475 München

Google Maps

It’s just round the corner from Fürstenried-west Ubahn. U3, 17 mins from Marienplatz so no problem to get to.

See you there,

Gwyn
ian
I'll put the Toytown orange flag up on our table in the beergarden so newcomers can walk right up to us, with confidence, and say: "..er.. are you Toytow.. oh yes, hi, yes I'm Fred by the way..."

Every week we get newbies. Strange. Last week, there were 3! Rest assured they were all made to feel welcome and part of the team.

Why do I never get any of those on a Friday? I might - just might drop by if I can get my hands on a tuit that's the right shape tomorrow evening.

I very rarely venture that far south. Is it true that you have to watch out for the alligators in the swamps down there?
Jeeves
No, you're thinking of Holzkirchen. But I have heard that malaria is rife around there. If you just stick to G&T you'll be fine.
TE610
its the Goblin's and ogre's coming out of the forest you have to watch out for blink.gif

I wouldn't call it *that* easy to get to... I've then gotta travel 20 minutes back into town then 20 minutes back home... (otherwise I would have come! smile.gif

There are so many Biergärten in and around the centre of Munich, why not more central? You may get a better turn-out then... smile.gif
Carm
The reason is that most people have to do some traveling, and then this makes it closer to home for some of the people once in awhile... a few weeks ago it was right around the corner from my place so I didn't have to travel. It was much appreciated. So, I don't mine travelling to North Schwabing or Pasing for a night out.

If the event wasn't working, it wouldn't be continuing would it?
CitizenSmith
The whole point of the beergarden is to come along and have a chat and drink some beer.
Most of the time we are central, this time we thought we'd try something we hadn't done before.
The problem with going so far out (an extra 5 mins on the Ubahn) really are the Ogres and Goblins, oh and the funny facial hair.
It turned out to be quite a nice place with friendly staff, good food and no table cloths.

Food at Maxhof is fantastic. Friends of mine had their wedding dinner there, and we always use it for our club christmas party smile.gif

The reason why we posted the travel time on the original post was to let people know that the travel time is not much longer than to other popular beergardens. As often they will make that mistake. On MVV it will take about the same time to get to the Maxhof from Pasing than the Seehaus or the Chinese Tower. People rarely complain about those.
-Pasing to Furstenried West 30mins + 3 min walk
-Pasing to Muenchner Freiheit 25mins + 10 min walk (Other routes have a similar total time)

We dont wish to keep returning to the same places all the time either. People have made that quite clear to us on the thread recently. Also, up to Thursday, the weather forecast included rain. So we needed a biergarten with a good indoor option. That reduces the number of viable beergardens in the city centre considerably. Especially as we have been to some of them recently too.
So you see its quite difficult to balance all of the factors of variety, quick to get to, and guessing the weather well in advance.

We will certainly be visiting all of the central beergardens in the next few weeks. Especially if the weather is a dead cert. And we can certainly come out in the direction of Pasing if you can recommend something new for us. It wont be long before we're back at the Hirschgarten either.

Here´s my tuppence worth!
It is in the middle of the city(almost) In Olympia Park. It is up a hill (Olympiaberg), it is the only beergarden in Munich were you can sit at a table and have grass under your feet. It is very small and you are up high, but it is a bit of a slog to get to. Any takers? It´s equidistant from Peteuel Ring or Olympia U-Bahn, bring a bike, roll down hill in darkness afterwards, more fun than tickling your granny! blink.gif
And to add insult to injury; laugh.gif
I do now formally declare Hawaii Shirt Season is now open.
I would like to now call upon all members , friends, anybody!
If a beer garden visit is imminent then don your most hideous, eyeball-melting Hawaii Shirt and come and scare the locals
All those in favour say "Aye"
All those against; sod off.
I have one or two repellent numbers here that I have been trying to unload for some years so, even if you don´t have one it´s no excuse.

Visit My Websitehttp://maps.google.com/maps?q=munich

And as usual my feckin link doesn´t work.
Uncle Nick
No excuse not to come or no excuse not to wear one?
sea-king
Quite correct Uncle Nick, excuses. Be there or be ...elsewhere! blink.gif
But wear a feckin shirt!!!
I SAID SHIRT! Not a skirt, that´ll be me!
