The topic was left over from last week.
I will anounce the venue this week in the next 10 mins.
CitizenSmith
Hi All,
This weeks we are returning to an old favourite, will be at the Augustiner Biergarten on Arnulfstrasse.

We will try to sit up near the kiddies play area opposite the steckle fish stand, three or four rows from the back. Call Ian on 01728227752 or Gwyn on 01733510658 if you have trouble finding us.

I'll be there from about 6:00pm, one or two of us will turn up early.
In case you don't know the place here are a few links:

Augustiner Website

Google Map

Take the Sbahn to Hackerbrücke the Tram 17 is convenient too, or it's a short walk from the Hauptbahnhof.

The weather forecast is hot and sunny 28°.

I think maybe the subtitle of the topic needs changing?
CitizenSmith
I had PMed Editor Bob to find out how to change it, it has been done now but I think it should start the week blank untill the venue has been posted. I wonder how many will go to Sasalitos.
Allershausen
Maybe that can be done automatically the same as all the discussions are archived on Sundays.
The weather forecast looks good, shame I won't be there.
bellamora
I would like to join you later. I think I might need a cold beer today. I hope I can recognise you somehow!
skean-dhu
A beer this evening sounds right up my street, hope to get there a little before 7pm.If I don't see an obvious TT table I'll give one of the numbers a call.
L8knight

MMmmmmm...Beer!

I'll try to make it, such a great night for a beergarden. The week sure calls for one too.

It is a pity I missed Ian dancing the last time! Otherwise, there were only the most sophisticated discussions as usual, e.g. about Vogon poetry and how Toytown destroys workplace productivity in Germany.

And I must say I felt understood on a very deep level ("I just fell in love with the waitress!").

Hope to make it between 6.00 and 6.30.

Cheers!

Georg

Anja was her name, in case you were interested. ph34r.gif

Ill be there. Mmmmmhhmhmmhmhmmm BIER.
ian
So I crashed my bike and got a little cut on my elbow which the hospital decided was dangerous as it cut the schleimbeutel, whatever that is?
So I missed the beergarden and all this hot weather.
But it was nice to have lots of people call up to ask where we are sitting in the augustiner beergarden. I could hear all the hubub and the clinking of glasses in the background. It was nearly as good as being there. And not laying in a hospital bed with tubes comong out of me!

sassen frassen rassen! (Mutley cursing!)

Anyway, I hope everyone had a good time. Especially the newcomers who called. Next time we'll have the big TT orange flag up to help you identify us. We didn't mean to make it difficult. I hope I'm out of hospital by then.

It’s that time of the week again; time for the Friday Beergarden announcement.

This week we will be at the Jagdschlössl, Nymphenburger Strasse 162
They have a sunny beergarden outside and a non-smoking room inside.

I booked a table for 12 from 7pm in the name of Schmitt.

There are many ways to get there, especially if you go by bike, but the one which will be of most interest to you is probably the U1 Rotkreuzplatz.

I looked on all the weather sites and the best I could find yesterday was about 11°, but today the BBC says it will be 20° tomorrow so its looking more like we will be able to sit outside.

Jagdschlössl Nymphenburger Strasse 162

all the best,

Gwyn
GreenTea
How long are you likely to stay there? I'll be in that neck of the woods tomorrow evening as it happens, and could probably make it there around 9 pm. Or maybe slightly later if I decide to check out the ice cream at Sarcletti wub.gif beforehand.
GreenTea
By the way, I notice that the thread subtitle still shows last week's venue. Confusing.
Allershausen
We'll be there till late, well we usually are! The heading thing is supposed to be changed, this happened last week as well, we'll have to discuss it with the powers that be, seek out the culprits and apportion blame to the innocent! smile.gif
ian
The subtitle has now been changed to protect the guilty.

I wont be there again due to tubes coming out of the arm. Doc says I can be out of hospital on the weekend. But they said that last week too!
TE610
Ill try and get there about 7.30-8ish. looking forward to an interesting evening like last week. smile.gif

shame the wether isnt better, live in hope
leisure suit larry
Hi, I want to be there by 7.30. Looking forward to seeing you later!
ian
we've booked a few tables at the Chinese Tower from 5pm on Friday 8th.

it's going to be hot 28degrees and they have cool chestnut trees to keep you and your cool beer cool!

everyone is welcome to come along and meet up with some well known and some lesser known Toytown names. And a random sprinkling of newbies.

we'll be sitting near the kids play area. But not too close. About 6 rows in. In any case I'll put up the famous orange flag. Look out for that or call or sms me on 0172 8227752 or Gwyn on 0173 3510658 .

Great! The commanding officer of Friday's beer garden is back to duty!

Chinese Tower looks like a good idea, was there today, very lovely, often disregarded as a tourist haunt but not as bad, really.

Won't make it 5pm though, between 6-7pm is more realistic. See you then.

Great! The commanding officer of Friday's beer garden is back to duty!

Now that is really putting Segeant CitizenSmith down. and the other equally important people who help choose the beergardens each week!
I am not in any way charge. I'm just someone desperate to find a cool beergarden and some good company on a Friday.

In fact everyone is welcome to give us tips on really good places to go. We like to have a lot of variety and also try to visit every part of Munich as evenly as we can. We cant always manage that due to weather or type of location. But thats our aim anyway.

We keep an online database of beergardens (in a yahoo group) and Map locations to most of the centrally located beergardens. If you have a Yahoo login please add any ideas to the database.
(IT wise they are noy linked together in any sort of clever way. I know its possible but too tricky for mere mortals)
ian
Its cool, its fresh, its waiting for you!!
Its the WEEKEND!

ian
We had a 45 minute break while the rain came down in torrents. Then it dried up, the sun came out and we all carried on drinking!

Ward-NL
Nice picture Ian.

I would have loved to be there, specialle for the beers wink.gif
TE610
Is it too early to be thinking about this? Maybe I just want the weekend to come early.

Hows Westpark or Michaeligarten as posibilities, havent been to either for ages. cool.gif
ian
Yes, we're watching the weather intently now. Several people are gagging to go to Michaeligarten. However its no good if the weather changes suddenly. Watch this space...

Well for the last 3-4 days, it's been nice out till about 17/1800 then out comes the rain. I'm going to take a guess
and say it's going to do the same thing again this Fri. So I'd plan to be inside if I were you wink.gif
CitizenSmith
Hello All,

Sorry for the late post but Ian and I have been watching the weather forecast. We searched the web for ages but couldn’t find a singe site that would say it’ll be hot and sunny tomorrow. Consequently we have chosen a beer garden with a good inside option. (Someone should come up with a site like www.optimisticweatherforecasting.com)

This week we'll be at the Beergarten Hofbraukeller from 6pm regardless of weather. Ian will bring the orange flag as usual. If it rains we will be sitting in the non smoking area inside, but look for us first out in the sunshine first.

The reason the forecasters are being very cautious is because there is a big bank of rain crossing Germany and they are not sure if it will hit Munich.
Legally they have to warn of a storm (Gewitter) in case of crop and other damage, even if there is the slightest chance.
Look at this lunchtimes rain radar movie and see if you think the big blue blob is going to miss us!
(Link to latest scan and parent site)
Kat
Looks like it should be perfect Biergarten weather. The purple blob is even further away than before. Don't think I'll make it though, as I've got company coming. Y'all have fun. cool.gif
ian
I think we've done it! All that nasty rain and thunder has just missed us. And we are in the clear for a lovely beergarden evening.
This will not be a repeat of last week where we took a short break then, after wiping the water off the table, resumed quaffing for the rest of the evening!

CitizenSmith
I'm thinking of going a little earlier, I'll try for 5-5:30
ian
Come along to the Paulaner Bräuhaus at Kapuzinerpl.5 from 18:00 on Friday 22nd.
A Cool City Beergarden where we'll sit outside, and even if there is a shower we'll be sheltered by the rain covers. If the weatherforcast does turn nasty, we'll go in to the spacious beer halls. Anyway, I'm out of hospital and out of plaster! So come along and see my scar! (An do that sympathy look!) Or just say "Yuk-oh!"

Pseudo-clever Question of the week: Kapuziner sounds similar to Cappuccino (or not) Is there any real connection? (You may be surprised!)

With over 200+ beer gardens in Munich, Why always seem to pick the same 8-10 locations?
Try somewhere different wink.gif
Grinner
I thought you had your own Friday night drinkies thing ...

Do I detect a friday drinks war in the offering?? laugh.gif
ian
Since we started posting beergadens on Toytown, we have only been to the Paulaner Brauhaus once before. On the 18th August 2006.

The choice for tomorrow is limited because of the uncertain weather forecast. We hope to sit outside and not commit ourselves to getting stuck indoors if it turns out to be a glorious evening. Yet the place must have enough room inside to move inside if it turns wet.
Last week, despite the rain 10 people turned up. We went inside anf got a table. Just. The previous week, at the Chinese tower, despite the short but heavy shower, we had 26 people outside in what turned out to be a great evening.

Nevertheless, I agree that we should try have a lot of variety. And I'm keen to find out about places that offer both the wet and dry option that are not too far out of town. (We get more people turn up if it is not too far out. Personally, I'll go any distance for a beer!:-))
madgibson
Carm & I have mentioned Schlösselgarten a few times as another option (only 10 mins from Hbf with the U4 and then a short walk) There is also the inside seating option if required!
