Fancy not wanting to go to a beer garden, I mean!
Are you sure that's what she meant?
You presumably told her it will be 25C

Allershausen: I don't think there's any debate about the sex of this particular visitor.

You also told her it would be the Augustina?
Allershausen
How do you know it's a she? Have you got inside information? I feel we should be told! biggrin.gif

With such great weather, a beer garden sounds like a perfect Friday evening... I will likely get there before 6, at least to make sure the beer is acceptible for drinking smile.gif

Hi myself and another girl (Caroline) have recently arrived in Munich and would love to join you lot for a few beers - unfortunately for Caroline I am the only person she knows (having only arrived on Mon!) but I can see my chat is wearing thin. I am Scottish and Caroline's Irish - folks are having a few problems understanding us so far!!!

Will I just look out for a red jacket then?
Allershausen
Give me a call when you get there. I've sent you a pm with my phone number.
CitizenSmith
I'll aim to get there just before 6pm.

If you have trouble finding us then feel free to call me on 01733510658. Don't try calling Ian he's in India.

A little bird has suggested to me that we go to Park Cafe this week, I've never been there, but I'm assured it's very pleasant. So what do we think?
Darkknight
It's been done to death...
Tomo
I'll be in Munich on Friday so I may come along if a good crowd is going.

It's been done to death...

And it's actually not very good imho
Darkknight
How's about:

Bobolovsky's
Ursulastrasse 10
MVV: Muenchener Freiheit..
Allershausen
It's not a biergarten, it's a bar.
Darkknight
Park Cafe, is not all Beer Garden either.. And if the weather is bad you won't want to be outside anywho..
And Bobolovsky's is more of a Resturant.. Only the front part has an actual bar..

helena
Park Cafe is a beergarden, but with a bar/restaurant attached. It's very nice, with lots of trees around despite being in the middle of the city and easy to get to. I was also pleasantly surprised by the food in the restaurant last night, and the nice atmosphere, so if it does rain, after all this is meant to be a beergarden evening, there's another option...
ian
Park Cafe is fine for the city centre. However this week we'll want somewhere with an indoor option that we'll enjoy, yet can still go out if its nice after all.

Indoor/Outdoor locations
  • Löwenbräukeller
  • Hofbräukeller
  • Augustinerkeller (not so good indoors)
  • Max Emanuel
  • Paulaner Brauhaus
  • Concordia Park
  • Jagdschlössl
Carm
I do like the Park Cafe, but I always thought the restaurant inside is kind of Posh?

ian- for your beergarten list do you include smaller local beergartens? There are some really nice, but smaller beergartens in Bogenhausen that have also indoor restaurants too. Or are you looking for more city center located?
ian
Carm. I'd like to hear about the smaller ones if you have some goo suggestions. As they would be probably better if the weather is uncertain.

And as for the location, anywhere that is fairly easy to get to is acceptable. Some people are put off coming if they don't know the area, be we can then put a description of how to get there.

cheers
Owain Glyndwr
I think you could easily add Aumeister (a short walk from U6 Studentenstadt) and Paulaner's Wirtshaus & Biergarten (directly next to the station U4 Arabellapark)
ian
What are those places like indoors?

Paulaners sounds interesting as its easy to get to. If its nice inside then we could go there, And if the weather changes we can still sit outside.
Owain Glyndwr
Aumeister has ample space inside and is the usual Wirtshaus style. They also have a covered terrace. To be honest, I've also not been to Paulaner's at Arabellapark.
ian
The problem with the Aumeister is that its a long MVV trip that might put people off for a Friday After-work. And the 10 minute walk from the Bus is not good if its raining. Better for a hot day. (Personally I dont mind though)

Presently I am in favour of somewhere that gets the evening sun, and has a nice indoor option. The only option I can think of that satisfies both is the Löwenbräukeller. Any other suggestions?
Owain Glyndwr
long MVV trip? you have to be kidding right? It is on the U6 just a few minutes north of Freiheit. What you mean is, it is not in Nyphenburg or easily accesable from there.
Carm
I think distance is an issue for more than just the organizers. I personaly avoid things in Neuhausen because I need to take 3 ubahns home.
There are a few nice beergartens that I do like, but they are not right at the ubahn- Schlosselgarten (behind Krankenhause Bogenhausen), Zamdorf (in Bogenhausen closer to Reim), the beergarten in Westpark (forget the name- again, you have to walk thru the park from the Ubahn).
If something is not easily accessible then people are put off attending.
Just look at some of the other events threads and see that people will not leave Schwabing for events, others won't go more than 10min ride away from home.
edit- that said, I would love a beer at the AirBrau in the Airport (and I promised someone).

That'd be the Hopfengarten.

Very funny thread by the way. Especially this little exchange...

I'd like someone to tell me any trip that means you have to take more than 2 Ubahns.
I have been known to take multiple ubahns to get home, although admittedly Starkbeer was involved.
Oh! I've just worked one out.

3-ubahns? How does that work? Surely you only need 2...
Owain Glyndwr
yeah i think it was a little "poetic exaggeration".
Keydeck
That's what I thought too. U1 to Hbf and then U4 home.

Anyhoo, this is all bollocks. Regardless of which location is chosen for a particular night out there will always be some for whom the 'journey' is longer. There'll always be some who'll not come to the event for that reason. You can't please everyone.
Owain Glyndwr
exactly Keydeck, which is why one location shouldn't be avoided just because it is slightly out of the way for some people, cos if you restrict the event to only places easily accessible for everyone who wants to go, you'll end up going to the same three or four places every time (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)

(ps, I'm just like EVERYONE in this matter, I much prefer to go to places in my own back yard, so avoid long treks across town too)
ian
So far I'm proposing the Löwenbräukeller as it does the evening sun plus indoor option and its within 16 English feet of a BLOODY U-Bahn!

If anyone can offer an alternative that they have actually been to, we'll go for that!
MadAxeMurderer
My favourite beer garden can beat up your favourite beer garden.

Oh sorry wrong thread.

Seconded! biggrin.gif (It's also very close to the Maharani, not that I care, just saying)
ian
Maybe we'll just go for the indoors option. This opens up a lot more opportunities. I was too optimistical before.

CitizenSmith
If you live in Princeregentenplatz and want to go home from the Löwenbrau you will need to take 3x ubahns.
MVV-Directions

By the way; Fantastic! a decision has been made.
Owain Glyndwr
same for me then. completely forgot that the U4 only runs from Max-Weber-Platz in the evening so getting back from most places will involve 3 U-bahns.

edit: if the sun is shining i will stop by for a beer. if it is raining I won't be bothering.

edit 2: btw, my suggestions of Aumeister and Paulaner's (where you can eat free Brezn btw) were just to be included on the list of places to visit. They weren't a suggestion for tomorrow.
Darkknight
OK.. Löwenbräukeller it is...
helena
Löwenbräukeller thirded! tongue.gif
ian
It seems to be official then. Friday 4th of May Löwebraükeller at Stiglmairplatz.
Sit outside if nice. Only go indoors if parky or wet.

TIME: Who wants to get there early? Fight over the start time!

Look for us up the top end in the sunshine. Catching those rays.

sorry was busy working, but I see you boys figured it out that after 8 those of us in Bogenhausen have to take 3 Ubahns due to the U4 only running to/from Max Weber after 8pm. smile.gif

edit- the ribs at Lowenbrau are awesome, cannot make it tomorrow, gotta date with a Hurrican on a terrace. biggrin.gif
DDBug
It's also a 3 subway run from my place to studentenstadt. (With a very tight switchover at scheidplatz).

Anyway, I might actually make this one - weather and deadline depending. Ribs sound awesome right now.
Allershausen
I should be there between 5:30 and 6:00. Hmmm Ribs!

you can also take a bus to München Freiheit and then the Ubahn, then its only 1 ubahn and 1 bus.

Indeed, 3 U-Bahns are necessary - just did it last night. There are loads of great places to go in Neuhausen but a bummer to get home afterwards! It doesn't matter where you pick though...it's always out of the way for some people...

I second Carm's idea of the Schlösselgarten in Bogenhausen...a short walk from the U-Bahn and in a lovely park setting...one for a warm evening though as I don't think it's very big inside. The Paulaner's beergarden that OG mentioned is part of the Sheraton hotel - quite nice but near the main road and all concrete...inside is better in my opinion.
Carm
inside Schlosselgarten seats 70 (I asked).
