You can see me? Where is the cam?
Why did you just turn round suddenly? The sword on your belt nearly knocked over Napoleons right flank!

Although you must admit I do have a rather large Quatre Bras! Ne pas?
Ah! The good old days, where a peloton would move with the ground it stood on. My great-great-great uncle died at Bayonne awaiting a big hand from the sky to come and move his whole company, and the ground it was glued to out of danger.

Not in this context it ain't.
I'll have you know, Sir, that my family has been responsible for many historic firsts in military history. Take Marmaduke Ponsonby-Hastings, the 1st Marquis de April as a prime example, and the commanding officer of Cromwell's inaugural parachute corp, who died on the field a few fields away from the field of Powick Bridge (in a hedge to be more accurate), on his very first jump almost exactly one hundred and thirty-nine years to the day before the invention of the modern parachute. Military historians still debate how he got up there in the first place.
I shall drink with the enemy this evening but I will take a dictionary.

Another fine English/Scottish/Welsh/Irish (have I forgotten anyone?) FBG. Ian and Gwyn swore it was pure coincidence that they chose the Colonial Bar. And I swear it was pure coincidence I was wearing an arguably colonial-themed T-shirt. Thanks to Sea-king for identifying the Flatiron building. Thought it was something like that, but nice to be sure.

Kites. The Chinese were behind it all.

It's all becoming clear now. This Marmitedude-Ponsonby-Wossname was wearing a "Made-in-China" battle tunic with washing instructions that said "Tumble dry". So after he fell in the river in the heat of the battle, what better way to dry off than to go up in one of these new-fangled kite thingies and tumble out.
One might think he would have qualified for a "Darwin Award", but not so. It would seem his descendants have propagated to this day.
I'll have you know Ma'am, that Darwin had yet to evolve by said juncture in history.
Hello my cool and charismatic summer lovers!
They've forecast 30 degrees on Friday. So we'll be in the shade at the
Chinese Tower beergarden in the
Englischer Garten from
6pm. Or earlier if anybody gets thristy. If it is suddenly seriously wet, the fallback plan is to meet at the nearby
Catwalk in
Mauerkircherstraße 2Everyone is welcome to join in.
Newbies, this is a good chance to get to know people in a relaxed setting.
And have a beer!
We'll be sitting
exactly here map at the blue pointer. Several rows away from the kids play area. Look out for the
Orange Flag. Or call/SMS to find us.

Eh? Thought you had
Tollwood in mind for this week? Still,
Chinese Tower sounds good - let's grab the opportunity to misbehave in grand style in the
Englischer Garten before the
draconian new regulations are imposed on August 1st. Oh, and talking of "draconian" - Catwalk sounds good too, but beware! - it's just across the river, in Dragon Country.
Note though that, contrary to popular belief, you do not have to swim, wade, or row a boat across the river. Catwalk is located just across a bridge. And you don't even have to
walk across the bridge. U-Bahn to
Giselastrasse, then bus 54 or 154 will take you right there (bus stop Mauerkircherstr).
Strangely enough, I've never been to Catwalk, but been wanting to try it for ages, so I'm going to be a spoilsport and hope for rain.
Catwalk would be great sometime.
I will be sipping beers on the beach with Duty Free in Cyprus, so you all have fun this week.

Chinese Tower - hm, haven't hung out there in ages. I'm thinking there must be a reason, but I don't remember it.
Tollwood would be nice as well, but I've been there three times already. So, maybe. It would be nice to get out with a crowd again!

I see we are getting into the Spirit of the forth coming 'Games'
Tollwood would have been great, but as the weather is going to be hot we would not stand a chance of getting more that 2 tables at 6pm. And any later and it would be impossible to get a 3rd one nearby. So Tollwood is
right-out!Last week peope were
queueing for an hour to get food! (And 2 hours at some DVD stand!)
The Catwalk looks good. But it has one problem! But I have forgotten what it is!
Anyway it is a short walk from the Tower. But we'll only need it if the weather turns really bad.

Everyone getting there so early?

What about those of us who have to work? I'm usually not there before 8 or so. For one thing, I find it advantageous to arrive after everyone has their beer goggles on. Still, might make a special effort to be there earlier - say 7:00-ish or even earlier - to make it before the storm breaks.
Or if the sky is looking really apocalyptic by then, maybe I'll just go straight to Catwalk and sit there smugly waiting for you lot to turn up drenched and bedraggled.
