Realy glad I made it - was great to see a bunch of people I hadn't seen for a while. One highlight of the evening was (especially at my age) getting chatted up by a couple of really nice young German guys. It went something like this:
Them: Where are you from?
Me: A place near Manchester.
Them: Ah, Manchester! Great football team! Champions League! Bla bla bla...
Me: I support Manchester City.
Them: Yeah, right! Manchester! European Champions! Bla bla bla...
Me: No, not Manchester United. Manchester
City!Them: Yeah, yeah, Manchester United! Congratulations!
Me: Arrgh!!! NO!!! Manchester
City! There's
two teams in Manchester. Would you tell a TSV 1860 supporter how great it is that FC Bayern are the Champions? Salt in the wound, etc...
Them:Oh ... oh ... we're terribly sorry...
Then one of them wanted to hear some English regional dialects, so I took him to meet Bluedave and the Cockney contingent. Oh boy, does that guy know now that there are
two teams in Manchester! Good work there, BD!
