And didn't Mohammed say "Someones been eating my porridge!"
CitizenSmith
Actually to be politically correct you should have said "The Teddy previously known as Mohammed"

If anybody is still there at around midnight I may just drop by!
CitizenSmith
This "Irish Joan of Arc" was she the one who burned the steak?
ian
What time are the early starters getting there?
(say me changing the subject from intelligent sounding topics in case I get caught out)
belgianpraline
No, so sorry, she wasn't burnt at the stake. That was Jeanne form Orleans. Shall I bring along my famous 10kg tome of Women with Brains in History to keep the balance right? wink.gif And I don't think Asians drink milk.
CitizenSmith
I know for certain that young Asians do drink milk. Half of them come with dispensers.
CitizenSmith
I'm going to aim for 6pm although I may be held up.
ian
Hey! Now you've got me thinking about drinking Asian milk from dispensers! Tuh!

Hey There,

Pierre

I was trying to upgrade the Friday drinks image a bit and thinking more of intellectuals like Constance Markievicz or Margaret Sanger or Elizabeth Gurley Flynn.

QUOTE (ian @ Dec 13 2007, 5:20 pm) *
Shirley Bassey, Lulu, Sharon Osbourne, Carol Vordermann, Felicity Kendal... Canoe Wife!

Of all those I only knew Shirley Bassey, Lulu ("Shout") and Canoe Wife! I take the full responsibility if the image of Friday Beer Garden is about ignorant Bierdimpfeln (Bavarian for not-so-smart beer drinkers)!

Maybe belgianpraline can move us up-market... See you later
belgianpraline
Thanks, larry. But I think everyone is GREAT the way they are! No need to change the FND. Of course it's always a goooooooood thing to broaden one's horizon, etc. wink.gif

Hey Christmas revellers

Christmas dinner Friday Beergarden style, will have a Tex Mex and cocktail flavour as we've booked Cafe Westend on Friday from 19:00
Its at Ganghoferstraße 50 right near the U5 Schwanthalerhöhe. Its cool! Checkout the place. Checkout the food. Checkout the cocktails

I didn't book under an interesting name this week as I panicked on the phone and quickly gave my own name, Phillips.

So this is the last one before Christmas and its going to be a blast. Well... blast-ish!. And, as always, we guarantee a good location every Friday! So the next one will be on the 28th. In that dead zone before new year. Maybe I'll have picked a comical name to book the restaurant in by then too. Did you know that it is illegal to do that here?

That's ok Ian, I phoned them up and rebooked in the name "Mz Potato Head"... purely as a tribute to Belgianpraline.

Toy Story 2 (1999)
Mrs. Potato Head: [to Mr. Potato Head] I'm packing your extra pair of shoes, and your angry eyes just in case.
Alien toys: You have saved our lives. We are eternally grateful.
Mrs. Potato Head: You saved their lives? My hero! They're so adorable. Let's adopt them!
Alien toys: [Gathering around Mr. Potato Head] Daddy!

Isn't she a sweetie?
CitizenSmith
I didn't realise that Toy Story had so much depth to it.
ian
I forgot to add:
Every body welcome. Newbies too! No need to sign up or request a place. Just turn up!

My mentioning Christmas Dinner made it look a bit formal you see. No, its a bar! It has space to get up an mingle. Although it might be a squeeze if suddenly popular.
fraufruit
Ian,

Type slowly please. I see you booked and then I see no sign up. Could you plz clarify?

Anal Newbie
Jeeves
"Friday beer garden" doesn't have a sign-up. Just come. As in

ian
Newbies can only come along if they post "I am a silly newbie" on this thread first. Signing off with "Pretty please" We're tougher than a Hells Angels chapter we are!
Pas
So are people up for this this week?

I'm toying with the idea of coming along but for entierly selfish reasons I'd prefer somewhere central or south side of the city.
MadAxeMurderer
Both Ian and CitizenSmith are away. So Pas they'll be very gratefull if you jump into the breach and organise it.

Just announce where you want to go, and let the arguing begin
Pas
So who would want to go out to play? Rather than 'Friday' night drinks think of it as Tuesday , Friday and any other usual night out all in one.
MadAxeMurderer
Pas it doesn't work like that, everybody waits for someone else to be the first.

Boldly announce I Pas want to go to the <pub> at <time> on <day>. Who wants to come?

Then people will or will not sign up. Look at the curry thread for an example of everybody waiting for someone else to be the first.
Pas
I'm waiting on a couple of PM's from people who might have more of an idea on where to go playing than me.

Ian did say there were 35 last year.
Carm
want a beer place or happy hour?

Happy hour- Cafe Blue, Escobar, Paquenos (Lucille Grahn str), Don Lucas, Wassermanm, Tres Hombres,

Beer places- Löwenbrau, Augustiner Haidhausen, Thalkirchener, Bavaria Brau,

pick one, and they will follow.
ian
Actually we would never leave an empty Friday, as there is a danger of it going without a venue and being skipped.
I was about announce the Cafe Faun as a suggestion from Leisure Suit Larry. But, Pas if you want to come up with something, that would be great! Where do you fancy?
Pas
Looks fine to me. I have a chance of parking:-)
ian
Shall we make that official then? Cafe Faun?
Pas
Go for it.
ian
OK. LSL will post details presently

Hello! Post-Christmas depression got you down? No longer!

Join us this Friday at Gaststätte Faun, Hans-Sachs-Strasse 17 in Glockenbachviertel from 7 p.m.

I booked a large table in the name of "Marvin Monroe", a renowned expert on all kinds of Christmas-related mental disorders.

You can recognize us from the English-sounding noise coming from our table. Or call me on my mobile at 0163-4277368 if you have trouble finding us.

As usual, everyone is welcome to join, no sign-up necessary!

Post-Christmas depression will be a thing of the past after this Friday night.

Here is their website and here is a map.

It is about 10 minutes from the city center. Take the tram 17 or 27 from Stachus to Müllerstrasse stop or the U-Bahn U1 or U2 from Hauptbahnhof to Fraunhoferstrasse station to get there.

See you there

Georg

I'll come along before going out dancing around 9:30 or 10:00.
Pas
It seems I've been talking so much crap over christmas that I've reached some magic 4% of all posts mark and now I get temporary suspensions for a few hours at a time unless I keep quiet. I plan on being there but probably am unable to post much over the next day unless everybody else also talks a load of crap as well.

might drop in if back early enough. I OD'd big time on family this year so a few beers might save my sanity...smile.gif
Blackadder
Could be turning up myself with my partner Sabine, will be my first meet, in desperate need of English interaction, a bit of a trek though from Au 20 mins north of Freising
Pas
Sabine? Lots of Sabines's around so this is a wild guess.

You don't have a Dog do you?

I'm thinking with Scarby in your profile possibly not who I think you could be , my Gran and Grandpa lived in Scarby though so we can remenis about donkeys and the North Park.
Jack
Hmmm, Faun is tempting, it's my old local.

Just came from Scarborough 5 months ago, My girlfriend Sabine is German the reason I am here trying to make a go of things

Blackadder
Scarborough south bay!

Pas
The last one is pretty well where my Gran and Grandpa's ashes are.

They lived in the big red house on Esplanade Road.
Blackadder
This is a picture of "The Esplanade" and Esplanade rd is a side road form this. Always nice views from there. 150 years ago this was the wealthy area " South Cliff"and still is in modern terms, by that i mean you could own a converted flat now within a building that was for only one family then .

Pas
I'm still pissed off somebody built on my maze and crazy golf course.

Pas
Another very fine evening. A chance to talk about Scarby is a rare and pleasant thing. I do need to go back in the summer again.

The venue was excellent. I had a fantasic Chilli Chicken and would definatly go again there for that alone. Go extra scharf though.
Blackadder
Yea anything to do with being spicy here needs to be Extra Extra scharf otherwise what is the point !!! and then of course down to the local for a quick Scrap
