Well, after years of work, the U6 extension to Garching is apparently almost finished (not before you've left though BigC)
Dunno when the line opens, but the tunnel is built, and for whatever reason, they are apparently holding a "tunnel party" to celebrate. "Die Mega-Party im U-Bahn Tunnel" apparently.
17th July

More info here: U6 Tunnel Party

Wow. That looks fun... dry.gif

A party? In Garching? They must have made a mistake there surely? Well I am still here and it might be nice to see this tunnel which has caused me public transport problems since I've been here.

Personally I think instead of connecting it to the geek campus, they should build a fence around it (after I leave) so they can't get out. Not that they'd notice from behind their screens. rolleyes.gif
VDB
a change of venue could be interresting, but so far it's not really clear what to expect from this. I like the idea though, as long as it's really a party and no an underground kind of beergarden
MadAxeMurderer
Great opportunity to drink in the UBahn, and walk around the tunnels without getting arrested.

Is the geek campus wherre they have the experimental fusion reactor ? I've twice met scientisits who work there and had a great chat. Fusion is cool !

I just saw an article today in a mag that showed a girl getting pushed infront of a stopped train and her friend pulled her out. (she was fine) At the party there should be a trampoline set up and they could charge people to push each other into the tracks! ohmy.gif That way we can all experience what it is like without having to die or kill someone.?!??!

(Before you go calling me a sicko it might help raise awareness so people stand back when trains come.)

All that aside, why don't they just have a ribbon cutting ceremony, put it on the news and move on? I tell you, these Germans!
don_riina
Man, I go to nearly ALL the "parties" in Hochbruck. Hilarious every time (after the 4th Maß anyway)
VDB
This has posted before on TT some time ago. However to give it a little more coverage and see if we can get some people together this new post here.

More info about the tunnel party you can find here: U6 Tunnel Party. It looks like there will be a number of bars in the tunnel together with an 'party sound' area, whatever that might be. It's still pretty vague to me what to expect but it's supposed to last until 5 in the morning, meaning it could be some kind of a party! And it's certainly a one time event.

So who would be up for this? Once again we could meet in GM's around nine (conveniently located at the U6), and head onwards to Garching from there. A little earlier than last Friday though, since a one time event like this is likely to be packed, and you don't want to get turned away if you came the whole way to Garching.

Jimbo
Gonna be at Andechs in the daytime, and tho Foxy and I are quite keen on this, I daresay I'll follow the crowd after Andechs (or indeed just go straight home to bed) - let's face it, all this is gonna be is like the Nachtgalerie but in a tunnel...
VDB
Depending a little on the weather I'll also go to Andech. I don't know for sure how late we'll be back from there, but I don't expect it to be so late that it would interfere with this.

And if it turns out to be a Nachtgalerie in a tunnel than I'll certainly have a great time there after a couple of mass in Andechs. tongue.gif .
Foxy
I'm up for doing both. I want to be there to support Hazza but also want to go check out the tunnel party. As VDB says its a bit of a one off event, and it would be a cool thing to experience before heading back to the UK. Depending on what time we get back from Andechs I reckon it would be cool to go to Bondi afterwards to see the band then head out to Garching afterwards. Is this do-able do you think or dont you think there is enough time to do both?
3 Lions
Should get back from Andechs about 8pm, so I reckon there is time to do both.

We can stay on the S5 to Karlsplatz and go straight to Bondi.
interplanetjanet
Damnitall! I've had to suffer transportation inconveniences for the last two years for this damn U-bahn line, and I can't even join the celebration. sad.gif I'd be there `cept I leave that day for a conference in Paris. Someone drink a couple Maß for me!
VDB
don't know about doing both, because it's a one-time event it's likely to be packed and you might not get in at a too late time.

On the other hand, there hasn't been much promotion for this event, so I don't know how many people will turn up...
Jimbo
I doubt it'll fill - it's big old venue and also miles away from anywhere and I've not seen any promotion except on TT (and I presume out in the boonies at the end of the U6). Personally I think it'll consist of Don Riina playing the spoons, big C celebrating his imminent return to blighty and one very confused Dutchman... wink.gif
Hazza
If it's run by the MVV, you know it will start on time though.

But seriously, it would be great if you guys could show up to the Bondi gig and go to the tunnel afterwards...I also don't think it will fill up completely. It's a long tunnel.

Edit: The website says it's over 4000 square metres. And there's a beergarden too, so I'm getting a mental image of an underground Strassenfest.

I reckon that would be one hell of a party... biggrin.gif
Big C
Well I'm def. going to Andecs and then on to this party.
I expect it'll be like a cross between a volks fest and a cheesy club. But with 4000m² it there should be plenty of space for all!
And as ever the more the merrier - so get your arses down to this one coz I reckon it'll be your only chance to party in an underground tunnel!
don_riina
Its gonna be empty as a beer thats been near me for more than 2 minutes. I'm only going 'cos its near my house, and I want to try and 'alf-inch a PA system.
I'm off to Bondi first for sure, then home to pick up me spoons an' pearly jacket. oy oy oy diddle-I doh.
Big C
Remind me never to suggest going out to anything other than music I know about again.
It was crap. Long queues from 10pm. 9 Euros entry, crap sound (although loud), germans giving that classic "german party atmosphere" (i.e. none) and one very long tunnel.

They should stick to volksfests!

MatchNL
Hey it wasnt too bad, i actually enjoyed myself. They even had techno at the very end of the tunnel. W00t! First techno Ive heard in all of germany.

Im not sure if it was worth WALKING there though... (read my post)
Big C
@matchNL - that was NOT techno at the end of the tunnel - it was house! A bit commercial, but with some good stuff dropped in too. Shame the sound (not suprisingly, being in a tunnel) was so bad.

re: Techno
This something you CAN hear in Germany - and probably at it's best. Don't ask me how the Germans seem to get techno right.
