Try here if you are up for a trek out of town, and probably no soccer - I went there a few years back and you could see quite a few of the bonfires across the alps. Defintely worth doing.

In my part of scotland we used to sit on top of the nearest hill all night enjoying the shortest night (only a couple of hours) with drink, music and bonfires. Do they do that here too?

I'd be up for that if there was even thopugh the night is a lot lot longer this far south

Especially as it'll be happening only 3 days after the summer solstice

Last night I read a message from someone looking for Midsummer night fires--Sonnenwendfeuer. I can't find the massage anymore!

Anyway, go to www.ganz-muenchen.de, click "actual Termine" and scroll to Saturday--there a few called either "Johannifeuer" or "Sonnenwendfeuer", one is in Holzkirchen, the rest furhter off.

Let us know what it was like!

There are normally fires in Ottobrunn and Unterhaching which are fairly close to town. Sorry, don't know dates. If I see a poster today, I'll post the date this evening. You don't need an invitation - they're public events.

There was something in this little village between Tutzing and Herrsching a. Amersee, but I think it took place this past weekend. A big banner proclaimed 'Johannisfeuer.'

Guess I'm a little late on the uptake, but there's always next year?
