What's it like?

Had someone ask me about Bahrenfeld and I had to tell them that I didn't really know it apart from its supposed to have nice bars and restaurants and has Airbus offices there.

Can anyone add to that?

Well, it's an up and coming area in Hamburg but not really that nice. A few new places opened there recently, like the Gaswerk, a very trendy new hotel which attracted a few fancy restaurants to open close by. Housing is affordable but not as nice as in Orthmarschen or other areas close by. There is also a considerable amount of council housing. But after Gaswerk and Phoenexhof (old industrial estate now full of modern offices) were erected, some of those old building were turned into modern lofts for living. There are lots of little shops in some of the smaller streets where you can buy everything you need. But there are also plenty of main streets with lots of traffic. Mind you, you can get to Altona or the City Centre by metrobus rather quickly that way, too. So, it depends on your budget but I'd find Schanzenviertel, Eimsbüttel, Eppendorf, Winterhude and Uhlenhorst etc. more appealing...

Well, this in an old topic, but I've just joined... so if whoever it was ended up moving to Bahrenfeld, they, or other English spesakers intersted in this suburb, may be intersted to know that this Aussie girl, being a Feldenkrais teacher, will be offering Feldenkrais classes held in English in Bahrenfeld, at the Toulouse Institue as of October... wink.gif

Bahrenfeld is spread over two parts. The motorway cuts through it. If you use earphones a walk along the parks along the motorway path is pleasant.

Places for eating and drinking are numerous. There are three cemetries good for meditating and asking "what am I doing to here?"

Lichthof is a cinema in Mendelsson str. as well as NutzMuhl which recycles bikes furniture and computers. The more you look the more you find. It is naturally near my shop in stresemanstr 169 holstenstr s-bahn. This street is one of the busiest in Hamburg 120 dcb. I cannot recommend it.
