Cultural Creatives Bring New Life to Dull Places

Energising Bored Minds

Toytown Germany > Discussion forum > South Germany > Munich > Life in Munich
PICSIE
Dear all

PICSIE and therefore the interlinked, inter-dependent minds from the global social networking groups, will be arriving to live in Munich within a couple of weeks.

Reason? L'amour.

One needs no other.

However, idle minds need work and the only intention I have is to mesh with any artists / musicians / cultural creatives / social entrepreneurs / rebels / wastrels / bums / drunks / hypomaniacs / geniuses that are currently living here. If they exist I will find them.

Can you point me in the right direction to resource such minds and if you had such an army of rebellious free spirits at your disposal, what would you ask them to create for you and your adopted city of Munich?

Regards

PICSIE

Hi PICSIE,

All I can say is.. good luck.

Munich is not the most bohemian of places, nor artsy or alternative.

There's a bit of interest in theatre and opera, but mainly from snobby rich women who dress in gold and green and orange and fur coats.

Is this another wind up? Because you aren't going to find any of that stuff here in Munich!
Showem
What nonsense, of course that's here in Munich. I'm sure Papa Geno would be fairly insulted to read that people think there's no creativity in Munich. Try looking here.
skint
There are certainly Bums and Drunks ...I personally know most of them.
Malcolm Spudbury
Saw a flyer for Kunst Transport in the Marienplatz U-Bahn station. The basic gist seems to be that a load of "artists" get on the U-Bahn at a certain time, go somewhere, and then have an exhibition.

Apparently this year is the 5th year they've done it. Might be worth a look, assuming you can work out what it is they're actually going to do.
Editor Bob
Big C and UA are kind of right. Munich is not the most Bohemian of places. It's more known for the tech industry, traditional beer culture, and crime-free neighbourhoods. But it's certainly not an arts desert either!

Random bizarre artsy link of the day: http://www.lothringer13.de/

what: Xtreme Houses
where: lothringerstrasse 13, Haidhausen (nr Rosenheimerplz)
when: 22/May through 1/Aug.2004, tues-sunday 1pm-7pm
contact: 45 91 19 05

exhibit description: re-thinking urban spaces. 'xtreme houses' is an exhibition of extreme houses that rexamine and challenge the way we live. exhibit includes a mixture of full size prototype dwellings, scale models, drawings, photographs, projections and screen-based presentations of featured houses.

How about that?

PICSIE
Thank you all.

In response to places not being creative...

At any given time, there is 'x' amount of creativity in a place due to there being 'y' amount of creative people.

But everyone is creative if they are given the chance to do so.

So you just gotta find the fire, no matter how finely it burns, and IGNITE it.

And it only takes a small amount of people to do so.
Big C
It might take a barrel of petrol in this case tongue.gif

After many mintues deliberating over the exact meaning of your question seems to me - your looking for places to go drinking to pick up at ???

You should take a leaf out of the Egyptian Love god's book. He got 18 PM's from TT women apparently !!! But he had camels mate...its all about the camels...
randy
You should pick more of Editor Bob's brain for this kind of stuff I think. Didn't he use to have his page (back when TT was just /tt) listing all sorts of interesting groups like Munich Futurists and the like?
PICSIE
Interesting interpretation Meckle. And I'm glad it caused you to think for several minutes.

On re-reading my post, I understand your positioning.

Let me clarify.

I came here because my girlfriend is German. In coming here I need to do what I do best, which is create. As I'm from Glasgow, I know what drinking is, I know what a woman is, and I know what a good time is. But that is not why I came here.

What I'm looking for are thoughts, ideas, creative minds to work with that generate energy and a sense of community.

If Munich is truly Toytown and idyllic then there is space for art and creativity.

If it don't exist, then let's create it.

PS Anyone have friends in the Italian, Spanish, Turkish communities?
Kza
@PICSIE
What do you create? Any particular discipline or themes? Any examples you can share with us? Any ideas as to where you want to take things in the future?
meckle
Yeah I was just teasing !! From your first 3 lines I had an image of bunch of lads coming on a drinking holiday.

I'm afraid I don't have any useful info - although I possibly qualify as a drunk. What's a hypomaniac ??

...and ooo the brain hurts a bit from all that exertion.

Welcome to Munich Picsie!

In your own words "Beer is the social lubricant of creativity"

From reading the forum post made by the Toytowner's, they have this weekly creative session that takes place each Tuesday in a beer garden. Keydeck is the official photographer and there are usually about 45 artist that show up. Then once a month, Papa Geno throws a group of nutters together in the name of art.

yeah, you will have much fun here while making your own form or art.

Ausgezeichnet!

Energy arriving...momentum gathering.

Thanks TexasT...your support is always valued.

Re your qs kza, here's what I want to create:

Support John re his Absolute Beginners - Open Stage - Amateur Night about starting a magazine full of authentic writing.

Support the a-geographical, pan-cultural social networks / open source networks collaborating for a more sustainable future by energising the Halls Without Walls events in Munich.

See Bala and his thoughts for more on this.

Find people in Italian, Turkish, Spanish, German communities who want to collaborate on projects that unite these communities in whatever way possible. This TT forum is one of the best I've seen by the way. We salute you EDBOB!

Link up the artists in Munich, Vienna, Basle, Lithuania, Gronigen, Glasgow and Edinburgh to collaborate on Environmental art projects.

Work with Neil McEvoy of OnDemand networks (fellow Glasgwegian) on the next level of capitalism (Re-inventing capitalism - see Howard Blume's up-coming book), and the Sustainable Economy. See Neil's site. Collaborate with him on bringing his ideas to Munich (especially those that involve Business Networking, Models and Alcohol).

...to name a few.

PS Meckle, a hypomaniac is someone who experiences less severe bouts of mania, symptoms among which include:

- feeling exceptionally confident with inflated self-esteem
- feeling a need for less sleep, so that you feel rested after only a few hours’ sleep
- being more talkative than usual, or feeling a need to keep talking
- feeling full of ideas with racing thoughts
- being easily distracted, and darting from one activity to another
- increase in goal-directed activity
- feeling very excited and in a euphoric mood for at least several days on end
- increased activity and high energy levels
- being unusually friendly, seeking out people, including strangers
- increased productivity and creativity.

And yes, I suffer, although suffering is hardly the word. See cyrano's
blog for some interesting thoughts.

A great novel centred upon a hero who is hypomanic is Don Delillo's
Cosmopolis.

Check it out.

Looking forward to getting to know you all...

A-GOD-DAMNED-MEN, Picsie.

(mutters to self) No artists, rebels, or bohos in Munich...scheisse...

Pic--come out to the Absolute Beginners show...or e-mail...if the stuff I work on doesn't fire you up (and it may not...who ever knows what someone means when they say they're looking for 'artistic types'...), I can at least give you a few ideas about where else you might look. There's fine energy here in Munich...and yeah, it only takes a few people to get something going.

(walks away muttering to self again) ...god damned bunch of nay-sayers...

P.s. --have you contacted John? He often does the AB night...next one is Leon's Irish Pub, on Donnerstag the 24th. You might meet up there...or at one of his Friday night do's.

welcome PICSIE ...

i like your positive energy-ness! you remind me so much on my younger brother, he's a "hypomanic" also ... years ahead of his time. if you want to network (create)with him, he's based on the Queen Charolette Islands and Nelson, B.C. Canada. I'm sure the two of you can create massive amounts of energy ... even if it's only through email.

let me know and i'll pm you his addy.

Ok - theres a guy you have to find that meets many of your criteria. Don't know his name but he's supposedly a famous Munich personality. I was sitting in restaurant, Benjarong, when I made eye contact with an obvious street man outside the window. He had a great smile so I smiled back. He blew on the window and made a little heart outline, tipped his hat, winked at me and went on his merry way.

According to my dinner companion, apparently this guy was a high roller in the business community. Made some bad deals, lost his company, reputation, got too far into the alcohol, then lost his marbles - so they say.

Hes now pretty much a man of the street, he sings outside of the schicky micky clubs for money. He uses most of his nightly earnings to send girls home in cabs when he thinks they've had too much to drink or its too late at night.

The big debate is supposedly over whether or not this man is really a drunk, really a bum and whether or not he chooses life on the streets. He may/may not have adeqaute resources to live a relatively normal life.

I can vouch for the lovely art work he made for me on the window. Made my day. Don't know how much of the rest of the story is true but there you have it...happy tracking.
TexasTornado
If you're talking about Georg and I think you are. He's brilliant while pretending to be a nutter. He used to bring me the change he collected for bills and then tip me?? not the typicall street bum. He understands English. I was at the going away party for Ben, a former Mike's Bike Tour guide in the Englisher Garten when our homeless friend joined the party. He decided to soap himself up and jump in the Eisebach for a bath. I yelled over to him (in English) Wash you Hair! he looked right up and sais yes maam and dove underwater. about a year later he came walking into the Galway Hooker, I said to him, I get it, you pretend to be a homeless guy, but you work for the police as and under cover vice cop. He did not miss a beat "ah! ya Bitch" then he tipped me and left.

He is creative, funny and has a huge heart. He can be found in the Englisher Garten during the day and working the streets at night. I like to think of him as Munich's finest street perfomer.
don_riina
Sounds like my kind of guy!

What does this fellow look like?
TexasTornado
about 50 something, shoulder length hair with streaked with grey. balck & grey beard and loves to play dress up. sometimes he's wearing a suit, sometimes Hawaiian print shirt, shorts & flip flops. You will know him when you see him. He radiates!

That is EXACTLY the guy I am talking about...nice to know his name. Thanks TT cool.gif

Link up...to collaborate on Environmental art projects

Munich's had a real flash mob deficiency of late; you could organize something where a few hundred creatives call in sick for 3 days in advance, don bright orange t-shirts, "randomly" amass at the Max Emmanual beer garden, and add fluoride to the beer.

It's a good way to:

A ) Participate as a leader in La Revolución!
B ) Meet like-minded souls
C ) Get drunk, skip work, and be hygenic

** bonus points for street postering anti-conformist-prisoner-sheep-hostile-old-fucks-fascist-american-death posters and/or warchalking open Wi-Fi hotspots on your way to the collective merging!
PICSIE
My God, only just arrived and am now being encouraged to track someone down. We have a name, a description, some behavioural clues and a potential location.

Cameras at the ready...
