People in or near Osnabrück

Meeting other English speakers
pompy1
Hi all, I have just stumbled across this website, which I think is brill. Just can't belive it's taken me this long.

Anyway, is there anyone else from the Osnabrück area around?

If so, please say hello...
Mickey
I´m in Hamm... but thought I´d say "hello" anyway and welcome to the board. smile.gif

Thanks for the warm welcome.

A little about myself, I have lived in Osnabrück since 2001 but I have been in Germany since 1983. Spent most of my time in Bielefeld but have also lived in Hannover and Walsrode. I am married to a German lass and we have two rug rats, one of each.

Been here such a long time now I feel like part of the furniture, not sure if we'll ever move back to Blighty. Have to wait and see if the good life over here suddenly takes a nose dive.

All the best for now.

Hey, I'm from Ibbenbüren, so pretty close to Osna. I'm Australian :-)

I`m in Osnabrück as well.Any rugby fans out there?Really miss the Irish pubs in Heidelberg on international days and the banter between the different nationalities.Rugby world cup coming up and for the Osnabrück area most people won't even know it's taking place.Ah well!Other than that Osnabrück is a pretty good place.

I go to university in Limerick, home of Munster rugby. I feel your pain.

Hello posters from 2007, can you just say ME ME ME or are we actually meeting up? It would be awesome to meet some english speakers for a pint or two.
PueschelBaby
I'm STILL here... waiting for some more English speakers to come forward :-)

I am from Ahaus, very close to Rheine !
PueschelBaby
Brilliant. Well, i had to choose the closest town on the list. I live in Ibbenbüren, which is right in the middle of Osnabrück and Rheine. Should be a whole lot of Brits in Osna, but i suppose they have their own community within the Army.

Why are you both (or all - when more people post) living in this "quiet" area?
tiexano
Yeah, I tried to join the Anglo-German Club of the Army. Not only that it's a rather senior club, it's also basically old Germans that speak German most of the time. If any of you is willing to drive to O-town for a beer, I'd be most delighted to join you. :-)
PueschelBaby
I saw a poster at the VHS in Osna about the Anglo-German club. They meet every second week at the VHS, every other week at the RBL club. "for all ages"... but i dont know. I guess i'd want a bit more info before i turn up.

How old are you tiexano? would love to meet up. I have an Aussie friend who also lives nearby, she is a TTer but i dont think she checks the site often... she would come too. So that would be 4 (?) so far. Ok, so if we include the German boyfriends/girlfriends/husbands/wives that will double that number (obviously biggrin.gif ).

I'm in Osna twice a week (mon and weds) for a German class, but i think the weekend would be better.
PueschelBaby
Ok, i just saw your age on your profile, no need to answer that question wink.gif

For the past 10 years I have been going back and forth occasionally to a little village near Venne - about 25 - 30 km north of Osnabrück - where my wife grew up. Beautiful area, and lots to discover. I enjoy going back to that Varusschlacht (Kalkriese) museum - I always learn a little bit more.
tiexano
I'm 31 which is around the half of the average age of the Anglo-German Club members :-).
I'm pretty sure they are nice chaps but save one also all German.
What about Friday the 14th or the following Saturday?
PueschelBaby
Sounds good to me, I'm easy. perhaps a Saturday might be better though? and where? any ideas?

We need more people :-)
