Family accommodation or flat share

Tips for making a choice on where to live

Dear All,

I will be coming to Munich in early September to learn German for two months followed by possible employment as an English teacher. I was wondering whether anyone had any views on what is the best route to take in terms of accommodation. A flat share with like minded individuals (I'm 27 years old btw) who no doubt would speak english to me or a host family where I can fully immerse myself in the German language.

If anyone has suggestions of information on host families please let me know. I believe some language schools provide host families but i believe you have to register at the school in order to live with one.

Kind Regards,

Patrick.

As a tip, you can look for accommodation on offer at the moment if you click on 'Classified Ads'/'Accommodation Offered'.

Tell us a little about yourself Patrick or is being a 27 year old teacher like minded enough?

Nothing more suffering than sharing a flat with the others - just a reminder for you. Though often in Munich one has to do so on financial constraints. Most of folks in Studenten-wg.de are students with quite good English knowledge, so you might have less difficulties in communicating with them. Good luck. rolleyes.gif

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies and since I am new here hello all!

Urbanangel - I have had a look at the classifieds section but my only concern is not being able to see the flats first hand. I am planning on moving to Munich in mid-August because my German language course starts in early September. I plan to have an intensive week of flat hunting in early August whilst checking out the city so hopefully I should be able to find a flat/flat share or cardboard box in that week! Pushing it I know.

Is a flat share really a bad idea Strawberry? I own a property in the UK which i share with a French girl which is fine for me, however, reverting back to my student days in Swansea with damp ridden walls and a half burnt down kitchen I am slightly apprehensive and pursuing this angle of accommodation. My ideal scenario would be living with like minded germans to improve my german language...or a german family until i find a job and suitable accommodation for myself once settled in to Munich life.

Keydeck...in terms of me...well i had a girlfriend in Munich but we recently broke up. My plan was to come out to Munich in August which I am still planning on doing. I love the city and most people I have met so far seem very nice.

Patrick.
