English-speakers in and around Würzburg

Who's here and wants to meet up?
Mareike
Hiya,

I am looking for English speaking people in and around Würzburg for conversation to brush up my English skills. Are there any British people around Würzburg at all?

If so please get in contact. smile.gif

Do they have to be British? Lots of other nationalities speak English - you might widen your pool of potential pals if you don't limit it just to British folk. smile.gif

esp considering there are several US Army bases in Würzburg (Leighton Barracks in Frauenland and Faulenberg Kaserne) and Kitzingen (Larson Barracks). The army folks hang out at Cineworld near Dettelbach where the Outback Steakhouse is / used to be, and there are certain bars they go to too, but hubby only knows the ones from 10 years ago...

I don't mean any offense but British would be better for me because I have to brush up my British English, especially the different accents and dialects. I am moving to UK soon and it would be horrible not to understand the British. But Americans are welcome, too. smile.gif

There aren't very many of us British people ...but I'm one of them!

I am currently organising an English-speaking 'Stammtisch' on Thursdays from 20:30 onwards at the Biergarten am Alten Kranen. If the weather is bad and / or the Biergarten is closed, we meet at the Cafe Two-Jours, Juliuspromenade. I can only be there for about half an hour next week (22nd), but I hope it will keep going after I've left. Everyone is very friendly.

Everyone's welcome: just look around for our sign on whichever table I've found. If you see nothing, look for a man walking around with a sign: that'll be me, not wanting to be sitting all alone!

Would this be a good opportunity for you? If not, just send me an e-mail (I *think* that's possible from here), and we'll take it from there. smile.gif

The bases are closing in Würzburg. I think last one closed today.

My English "Stammtisch" in Würzburg has now finished. Sorry not to have met any of you there! If you're in the area, keep looking, as there was strong interest within the university, so something might happen next semester, who knows?

Hello there.

I see that this post is a little old, but I would like to jump in and see if there are any other English speakers in the Wuerzburg area. (any nationality) My wife and I are thinking of relocating to the area, and I wanted to get some inside information on employment for me and such. My wife is a German citizen, so she will have it easy.

I have been in the Instrument Design/Engineering field for over 20 years. I know AutoCad and Microstation and several other programs to get my jobs done. I produce electrical wiring diagrams and help facilitate startups. Of course, I would be willing to do most anything, with the exception of severe manual labor.

Anything out there?

Hey there

New to the forum and also new to Würzburg. I live here with my famliy (german wife) and we just moved back from the states. Checking out if there are any other english speakers in the area that want to meet up for one of those "Stammtisch" things. Working from home so not too much of the outside world contact going on. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi JohnnyBoy,

My husband and I moved here from Canada a few months ago and are having trouble meeting people. I would definitely be interested in attempting a Stammtisch thing. Especially if your wife also comes and lets us practice German with her!!! Anyways, I'll check back here...

Army's still there, but will be gone by Sept. 2008. ( http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%C3%BCrzburg )

Anyone wants to start a stammtisch there, go ahead and start a new thread -- see here:

It might not be too late to sign up for this coming Saturday afternoon in Hofheim im Taunus too -- Meet up at Café und Restaurant Waldgeist near Frankfurt.

I was wondering if the Stammtisch thing was continued? I moved to Würzburg with my husband (he is German) about a year ago. I speak nearly fluent German (and he speaks fluent English), but have had a hard time meeting new people. We would both enjoy getting to know new people and speaking in English again. Does anyone have any information on an existing Stammtische or interest in starting a new one?

We haven't had a regular stammtisch in a while just due to conflicts in the schedule of us (me and my family) and the other couple that we have met through this site. That doesn't mean that we can't get it rolling again. Just let us know your schedule over the next few weekends and we will work something out to meet. It has not really been a "stammtisch" more of "when our calendars are open ...tisch". Looking forward to meeting you and your husband. Do you have kids? We have an almost 5 and a 1 1/2 year old. Knowing that will let us figure out where to meet better.
