Hi,
To sign up for and IP telephone system my chosen provider is saying they won't give me a real UK phone number if I register from a computer outside the UK, only an 0845 number. Seems like a dumb restriction to me, but OK, if that's the way they want it.
Do any of you recommend an IP anonymising service that have a proxy in the UK? A quick Google showed up nothing obvious, and I'm not an expert in this field.
Thanks in advance.

Configure you Browser to use one of the IP addresses listed
HERE, there are 4-5 pages so make sure you see/try all the UK ones. Only use the ones that say Anonymous or high anonymity the others own't work the way you need it too. If you can find an open proxy there goto googe and do a search for "Open proxies"...

Thanks very much DK. There's only one UK proxy and it's a bit slow but it works. It's amazing, change a few numbers in a browser and all of a sudden you're on the other side of the planet. That's magic.
There's a longer list of (transparent) UK proxies here:
http://www.aliveproxy.com/transparent-proxy-list/
But I guess these don't hide the originator's IP and location like the others.

Indeed, I had a quick look around and it was enough to make me nervous. Some of these sites on internet security and trickery look highly dubious and, after all, if anyone's going to know how to hack my PC it's them.
Still, your advice got me what I needed, many thanks: a UK phone number on www.sipgate.co.uk. It appears to be technically a breach of their terms and conditions, although not explicitly forbidden. For the life of me I can't understand why they have such a stupid restriction.

It's not theirs, it's BT's and the Govt's.
